Green Street - A Warning

I.D. is a brilliant film about this topic

Are you on drugs? ID is atrocious. Possibly the only good thing in ID is the line "I fucking love you Gumbo", which every football fan in the whole world has used at least once in their life. FACT.

It's probably impossible to make a worse film onn this topic.

I used to think the same. Then I saw Green Street. It's worse.

Just been to see Green Street today and despite what people on here have said, and despite the fact I cannot stand football hoolie films (had an agreement with my mate who does like em that if I go and see that he comes and sees the Constant Gardener next month) I actually quite liked Green Street. Yes it is daft and Elijah Woods as a hoolie doesn't quite make it! The police in the film really need to take a long hard look at themselves and ask a few questions! Can you imagine 40 hooligans outside a train station waiting for another firm with NO police round whatsoever?! Never gonna happen in a million years - neither would the police let a hooligan firm walk to the ground without an escort (as happened in the match against Birmingham) And neither would 8 hoolies ever be able to kick the shit out of a 40 strong gang! That said, I dont think its a bad film and was entertaining. I prefered it to Football Factory as that film simply didn't have much of a story - basically they just wanted to do a film about football hoolies and thats what it was. At least Green Street had a start and an end!

Certainly daft and some scenes are completely unrealistic but I liked it!

Believe it or not, Green Street is actually worse than ID.

I don't believe you. :D

Damn you all, this thread is actually making me want to see the film. It sounds like we've got another 'Showgirls' on our hands here.

And the area around the Green Street Elite's boozer looks to me suspiciously like Brentford, thoughh I could be wrong.

I thought that too, and the scene where the Millwall head honcho's son is killed is definetly in back of the New Road stand at Griffin Park - bit of an odd place for West Ham and Millwall to be rucking!

ID was awful, Football Factory was dire.

There is one half good joke in ID, though, about illiterate policemen. Actually, it's not funny at all, it's just that the rest of the film was sooooooo shite.

ID was a load of wank.

One of the most shite films I ever saw.

The funniest bit was unintentional, when Gumbo gets hit by a dart on the terraces and just screams a bit. The script is a fucking joke and the lead character looks about as scary as a Blue Peter presenter.

Football Factory is OK, but still shite, though the lead character (who played Moff in Human Traffic) looks the spitting image of the older racist cab driver - they have to do a father/son film at some stage.

The Firm, well, Oldman saves it I guess. Best of a bad bunch.

I won't be going to watch this Yank wank, that's for sure.

Football factory was probably the best of the lot but that wasn't perfect. Nick Loves new film is woeful in comparison though.

Arrivedechi Millwall was probably the most accurate of the 80s ones. Well the clothes were anyway even if shooting a copper was a bit far fetched. The Millwall lads in The Firm wore suits.

Why does every single one of these films need someone to be killed off. No wonder they all lack credibility.

And why do they always draw Millwall in the cup?! It's a bloody fix I tell you!!

i really reall wish it wasn't about west ham :(

tempted to see it just to yell "oi frodo you tit put some shoes on your fucking hobit" the second i see that silly excuse for small folk bastard.

that film was not the way to avoid being type cast.

for some reason from the poster, not having paid any attention to it, I had it in my head that it was an elaborate introducton for a new boy band!!!!!!

I just watched this on DVD. It's pretty poor.

I think it's quite hard to do a decent film on football gangs. Film-makers always have to have a story, with a start, and an ending, whereas the nature of football violence is that isn't doesn't have a "story" like this.

It just has fortnightly trips away to a given town, excessive drinking and sometimes violence with another bunch of nutters. Repeated endlessly.

I mate lent me one of these books written by a "retired" hooligan, and it's just a series of chapters along the lines of "Saturday xxth xxx". Got on a train and went to such-and-such. Wandered around pubs getting drunk. Then had brutal brawl with rivals, with glassings and slashings etc. Watched match. More fighting. Went home again."

Difficult to make a decent film of.

Green Street is a particularly bad example though.

Can you remember that storyline in The Bill a few years back when that young blonde copper went undercover in a firm? It's about the same as that, except they all wear Stone Island.

everyone wears it, now you can get it off brixton and east street markets for 10p

Saw Green Street - thought it had some bad acting, holes in plots and scenes that had no relevents at all. But after seeing Revolver, I have concluded that Green Street was thoroughly entertaining and more worthy to be seen than the dreadful Guy Richie pap.

Finally got round to seeing this last night. It's really dire isn't it!

Oddly, the reaction I am getting from people I have mentioned this too is generally that they thought it wasn't too bad!!!!
