Green Gathering at the point of collapse

I'm sure there'll be more to it than meets the eye, but it could just be that he see's an event that's got a good base of loyal supporters, and could easily make a profit if it wasn't promoted in such a half arsed manor.

Yes, I suspect it's seen as a long term return only, by these investors.

Good knowledgeable analysis by free spirit as ever. Treelover : what do you think of his points? Genuinely interested ....

I haven't been for years, but I suspect many of the more recent attendees won't be bothered at all about the change of direction,

You're so obvious treelover ;)

I suspect many BGG attenders, old and new, would have been pretty bothered had the thing gone bankrupt and ceased to exist .... and from what freespirit is saying, total liquidation was a serious and imminent probability.

And had it not been for 'some of the more recent attendees'** I suspect the thing would have gone bankrupt even sooner, sadly.

**Code for those evil liberal middle class Guardian readers no doubt

The reason I posted the news of the new investors here was to spark just this sort of discussion though. If I was a BGG regular (never made it yet!) I'd be far from happy with the backers behind this new money. But I would still want to engage with the dilemma -- bankruptcy/going bust versus survival on tainted money? It's a genuinely tough one, there is a proper debate to be had there. A debate not helped by simplistic sneery coded pops at the supposed (and cliched) middle classness, 'liberalness', Guardianness, apoliticalness of the festival's attenders.

Damn right William!!!!

I for one would be gutted if there was never another BGG - been going since 1996.
The summers it doesn't run are always a bit blank.

Last year was really lovely (and they served a damn fine pint of GEM) ;)

there is something really special about that festy.

Particularly if you have teens (not everyone I know, but I do) it is a really god place for them to run free and you don't worry about them (well not much) :D:cool:
