boards of canada's remix of beck's broken drum is quality, as is the track you mentioned (i'd of chosen that too), but I've also got a soft spot for chemical brother's mix of spirtualized - i think i`m in love :o

zincs remix of mobb deep's shook ones

terminalheads remix of geri/ceri halliwells look at me

kruder & dorfmeister remix of bug powder dust by bomb the bass is my all time favourite

First thing I thought when I saw this thread was "The K&D Sessions", but it's fucking hard for me to pick a favorite ;) That's why I went for their "DJ Kicks" album...

I fucking love that album (The K&D Sessions), but have to ration myself listening to it, cos I'm terrified I'll get bored of it. Hasn't happened yet though :)

Totally agree. It's superb.

The only remix album I've heard that compares to it is the "Brazilification 2" album by Fila Brazillia. The first volume is supposed to be better, but I haven't listened to it yet.

btw I'm in the middle of making a mix between a track by the Cinematic Orchestra and a spoken word piece by Saul Williams, just for personal enjoyment because I really want to hear how it sounds, but if anybody is half interested PM me and I'll send you a link to download it when it's done

edit: with a sample from Attica Blues that I haven't decided whether it works or not yet, if that whets anybody's appetite :)

At work, so not able to have a dig, but these spring immediately to mind -

Donna Summer - I Feel Love (Patrick Cowley Megamix)

St Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart (A mix of two halves)

Sabres of Paradise - Smokebelch II (David Holmes remix)

Exactshit (Hextatic) - Nancy's Boots (These boots are made for walking) > there's a clip here

Theres also that great bootleg, I think by 2manydj's which mixes Smells like teen spirit with bootylicous

Everything 4Hero remix's is special, but the standout remix for me from those boys is Ultra Nate - Twisted (4hero mix)

Stone Roses - Fools Gold (A Guy Called Gerald remix)
Bobbi Humphrey - Young Warrior (Madlib)
Incognito - Out Of the Storm (Carl Craig Mix)
Ian Brown - F.E.A.R (UNKLE mix)

You have good taste. The David Holmes mix of S.O.P is definitely one of my favourites.

Also:

Aphrohead - In The Dark We Live (Thee Lite) (Dave Clarke's 313 remix) - Bush

Leftfield - Not Forgotten (Hard Hands Remix)- Hard Hands

I think it was done just by Paul Daley from Leftfield, as opposed to being done by both Neil Barnes and Paul Daley.

Paul Van Dyks remix of Binary Finary's 1998.

The finest trance tune ever committed to vinal.

But that's when trance started to go horribly wrong; well, maybe a year or so before that. All that Gatecrasher shite totally destroyed what was a respectable genre of music, imo.

I'd vote Hardfloor - Acperience 1 - Harthouse as the finest trance tune ever.

Shitloads... but the first that spring to mind at such an insipidly early hour are:

DJ Junk's '92 breakbeat reworking of Mental Cube - Q (called Do It Do It), JUNK03. Absolute quality tune. This is how you do uplifting without descending into fromage

Danny Breaks mix of D.O.P.E. - When I Was Young

Cloud 9 (a Nookie alias) - Return of the Donut, which is a remix of Large Southend Donut by 2 Boasters, A Digestive & A Jammy Dodger (another alias of Nookie)

excellent choice, don't forget the beatless remix as well, was that holmes?

can't really top what's being talked about as my computer is fucked at the mo' :o

Misjah & Tim - Access (KY Jellybabies Mix)

Original was good, this bootleg (eventually properly released) made it a must play.

Ooo.. tru! Though I like the Kenlou B-boy mix even more.

Plus, one I've just remembered, which definitely deserves to be in any top remixes list:

NWA - "Straight Outta Compton" Kid 606 remix.... Off that "attitude" 7"

First heard that at 9am in a field towards the end of a mashed up night. The guy who had it said it'd fuck my head up. It duly did, but in a very amusing way :D

The beatless mix was just by Sabres of Paradise themselves. That's great too.

calderone dub mix of Music, by Madonna (no, really)
lee coombs mix of Crystal, by New Order

maybe not greatest of all time, but each 10x better than the originals

Helluva bump i know, but worth it cos I am enjoying the glory that is the Evensong String Arrangement of Oxbow Lakes by the Orb as I type.

Beautiful  :)
