What happened to LA? Thread I saw had a few nominations for it.

Might have to vote Bristol for the joke option. Actually is that Bristol Tennessee or Bristol, England?

Wigan? fair enough some brilliant music was played there at the casion but music actually from Wigan..... The Verve and Rick Astley?! :hmm:

I've said it before and I'll say it again

The TANSADS were the best fucking band to come out of Wigan, bollocks to the fucking verve. The verve supported the Tansads!!!! As did Pulp!

And Rick Astley's from St Helens

Nashville for country and rock and roll, New Orleans for Jazz and Blues. I would add Lonnie Johnson to the list of New Orleans greats. You have to admire the musical stature and culture of a city that can spawn Louis Armstrong, Lonnie Johnson and Jelly Roll Morton. Hugely important virtuoso types and all coming from the same small town around the same time.

I'm sticking with Manchester, even if any of the others (well, except Wigan) are worthy contenders.

England and America aren't the only countries who make music y'know

Well obviously. But Glasgow is in there on some weird fucked-up reasoning.

I find it hard to vote on this. Chicago for the blues, indie labels and clubs or Nashville cos I love the honky-tonk.
New York and London have a case but for every gem we've had a score of pieces of overhyped shite thrust upon us.

A lot of those cities do have an amazing musical heritage, but leaving out places like Rio and Berlin in favour of places like Wigan and Liverpool...

I agree, and Bristol () and Glasgow can fuck off when places like Paris and Melbourne exist.
Seems that posters from particular towns (sic) upped their local music scene to a point way way beyond dreaming and influenced the final poll so that's why there are so many joke options on it.

I can excuse people doing that in bristol and liverpool tbh. but wigan ffs

Calling Bristol a joke option is a bit ignorant tbh. I accept there are bigger cities to go for but Bristol has punched way above its weight musically.

Gone for Ny. Birth place of hip hop and enough other musical attarction to just about keep detroit and london in 2nd and third place.

Shocked and disserpointed that theres no seattle and no LA. Not that i would have voted for either of em mind but they would round out my personal top 5.
