Greatest fight scenes

"You seem a decent fellow... I hate to kill you."
"You seem a decent fellow... I hate to die."

Sonny Corleone beating up Carlo in Godfather is really staged and fake, but despite this, it still feels really brutal - whenever I see a dustbin lid I think of this fight!

The fight at the start of Rumblefish between Rusty James and Biff is good - very choreographed, like a dance, and I would argue a big influence of some of John Woo's later action sequences - birds fluttering across the scene, lots of jumping, almost balletic movement. Also has a good Stewart Copeland score pushing it, and completes with the coolest of cool arrivals by the Motorcycle Boy....'what is this, another glorious battle for the kingdom?'. Very nice!

Basically any fight from Once Upon a Time in China (particularly the ladder sequence, which I annoyingly can't find on youtube).

I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned the epic and rather brutal fight at the end of the first 'Lethal Weapon' movie:

'What do you say, Jack? You want a shot at the title?'

I like the Bourne fights... Can't think of any one that rises to the top, but whoever choreographed and cut them did a good job.

that scene in that really narrow carridor(or toilet or something) in unleashed, proper gritty and violent inloves jet li and is really really cool.

In addition to the end of Sanjuro mentioned on the other best fight thread, there are two bits from the Kitano Zatoichi that are magnificent (in a film filled with great, great fights). For those who havent seen any of the films, Zatoichi is blind.

The first is right at the start of the film where Zatoichi is faced by a mob and disarmed by a child.
The second is the face-off between the ronin Hattori and the gang he has been hired to dispose of, which he does in a (despite the CG blood) oddly realistic way:

Firstly Kudos to the people mentioning Princess Bride, and lethal Weapon.

But rumble in the Bronx, thats not even in the top ten Jackie Chan fights never mind greatest fight scenes.

My two favourites are the Both of which feature two trained killers trying to murder each other in my most brutal manner possible. As I understand it (aside from a couple of pieces of dramatic licence in both) the eye gouging, the physicality of the violence is incredibly plausible.

Another vote for The Princess Bride and for The Last Dragon.. terrible but wonderful film. :)

Though, personally I think that the fight at the end of Rocky is beautifully staged and emotional. Which makes it great, imo.
