"Outbreak is a very good example of an effective disaster movie". Thanks for that, Ruth Badger.

Yeah, after seeing Outbreak and Andromeda Strain, we should stick them in as well but they've already gone

Cliffhanger? WTF!

This is getting silly

and now "The Taking of Pelham 123"? Excellent film, but hardly a disaster film

15 disaster films + filler

yeah, it's fucking ridiculous innit. So if they're going to have Pelham 1,2,3, are they going to have every bloody film with a plane/train crash classified as a disaster

What plonker came up with this category of "best of"

wasn't me, honest :D

Cos I'm watching something about people learning to drive. And it's funny because they keep crying! :D

I'm watching that too, I can't believe that rev head Steve has passed!!

Sorry for the derail, Poseidon Adventure for me.

According to Wiki

A disaster (from Middle French désastre, from Old Italian disastro, from the Greek pejorative prefix dis- bad + aster star) is the impact of a natural or man-made hazard that negatively affects society or environment. The word disaster's root is from astrology: this implies that when the stars are in a bad position a bad event will happen.

Oh, I'm taping this. Do they have any older films from the 30's, to the 50's like San Francisco, The Hurricane or The Rains of Ranchipur ?

My fave cheesy disaster film has to be Towering Inferno followed by The Poseidon Adventure. During the 70's I was obsessed witht them and even went to see all the Airport films and rubbish like City on Fire and Rollercoaster.

No, it was just an accident. Or are we to classify every accident film as a disaster as well?

I would class Alive as a survival film

It does have the best plane crash in film history though.

They had King Kong

Towering Inferno was No. 4. Poseidon Adventure was in the Top 10 I think. Airport was in the Top 20 I think

Rollercoaster has no chance

My friend's brother went to school with that lot of Uruguayans

I was obsessed with that story when I was a kid in the 70's after I read "Survive" which the film is based on.

hm, Armageddon is No. 3

so what's going to be No. 1?

Bet it's Titanic

I hate Armageddon much more than Titianic. What is it doing at #3 ? May not watch it now.
