Greatest Breakcore Track Ever?

never underestimate the joyful power of gratuitous, infantile noise :)
I was about to ask what on earth people get out of breakcore that's good, as I don't understand it at all (and can often appreciate music I don't personally like that much).

I just don't recognise your description in breakcore at all. Shame.

El Jefe does love his noise music over anything else it seems.

but you like acid techno - the dullest, whitest, most soulless, flattest, joyless, linear, cliched nonsense going.

OMFG I want to put Knifehandchop, Bong-Ra, Ebola and Venetian Snares on a loop in my office. This will certainly not piss anyone off :( Especially the lab next door that inlficts Abba on me on a regular basis, the cunts.

:) No, tisnt.

I wasn't having a go, just thinking it's a shame I don't hear what you hear in breakcore as your description sounds like it's lots of fun if you do.

I like that. :)

I'm a big fan of breakcore, although i dislike most of it. It usually descends into a complete mess and all you can do is flail around wildly - which i guess is the point.

Some of it though is really inventive, and i would consider it one of the most forward thinking electronica genres... simply because there are no real set rules :p

here are some of my favourites.......

DuranDuranDuran is awesome!

For me it has to be Fuck Toronto Jungle by Venetian Snares.

I've not heard the amen break receive more abuse than the abuse it receives on this track. Also the fact it has a sample that says "Pull your fucking soul out and throw it on the floor" :D

I really like that :) It would drive me nuts if I was out trying to dance to it though. A night of breakcore is very wearing, I get very annoyed with all the starting and stopping and impossible rhythms. To listen to at home though, that would be ver good.

I pretty much adore breakcore, and am currently trying to learn how to make music just so I can show these dubstep boys how it's done.

They will regret teaching me.

yeah it is kinda ridiculous and stupidly intense.

I read some music theory book about the progression of rock and roll to just rock....alt rock, prog rock, stadium rock etc.

how it evolved from simple dancefloor based rhythms, getting more and more complex until it moved away from the dancefloor and one listened to it standing still (or sitting down)

I guess the same applies here.

although saying that, being in the middle of a MASSIVE crowd of people loving it completely off your face is mind-meltingly good! Its pretty hard to go back to techno after that...

I like for the bit at the end when it goes bat shit gabba with screaming over it. Always good for waking the neighbours at 4 am.

On one of Venetian Snares' Breezeblock mixes there's a bit where it goes into a sample voiceover from the Care Bears, before he combusts it into more smashing the wall of sound that he does best.

Other names I like a lot are Datach'i, Acrynym, Animals On Wheels, Eternal Sunset, Hrvatski and Xanopticon. In terms of tracks, I think its a genre that works best in album/EP form.

Well, I am all alone in the lab. So it's time for, Spectre's Mega Bass Robo Orgy set. Goddam is that a classic.

It more than makes up for the fact that I have already worked a 12hr day with no end in sight...

Oh my god. I love breakcore so very very much. I thought the Swiss bastards might have driven it out of me, but no. Fuck. I need to run my own night or something there's nothing here  :(

I think I'm more likely to call it Drill'n'Bass than Breakcore. Or there a distinct difference?
There's a difference.
For example, Squarepusher's breakcoreier stuff is priobably drill'n'bass (back in the old days), breakcore has a distinct ragga(-jungle) influence, usually. But there's more to it thatn that, obviously.

I finished working but the MBRO set isn't over. I am actually sad to be leaving :D
