£235 quid for a fucking day return to Cardiff.
Taking the piss.
What's worse is that I have to be there early to make arrangements for my Mum's funeral. It's despicable profiteering.
That is absolutely disgusting mate.
Have you checked cheap flights?
Have you got loads of stuff? I ask because if not the coach is often pretty quick London to Cardiff, it's easy on the tube from Brixton, and it won't be over 200 quid.
You've probably checked all this but a somewhat cheaper option might be to go after 7pm and come back Friday evening.Still be about £90 plus the would mean somewhere to kip.
Its fucking scandelous, it really is.
Hiring a car and petrol would be much cheaper. Do you drive?
Wankers. Should be law that public transport is not allowed to be more expensive than private vehicles. No wonder our roads are full
Railways in this country are a fucking scandal.
Cheaper to build a 1:1 scale replica of Cardiff outside your house and then just walk there.
Cheaper to fly to fucking Arrakis, get yerself a teenth of melange and fold space to Cardiff.
I know people that would drive you there and back in a band splitter van for less than that.
I'd drive him there and back, door to door, for an even 200.
Shit, 100 quid plus fuel. Who am I kidding I don't even care about the money I just need someone to talk to
And now I think about it my car does not currently have a battery in it so there's that.
Doesn’t help but I was looking at tickets to go York in well over a months time thinking I’d get some cheap tickets. No. Still going to work out cheaper to drive! It’s insane the cost of rail travel in this country.
Basically going to come down to do I want a nice chilled 3 hour journey vs road rage on the motorways on a Friday night.
The train might still win yet. But I shouldn’t even be having to think about it.
You can get an off peak one month return, for £57.60, go up night before, stay the night at a B&B come back later the next day, still works out cheaper than £235. Not sure where you got the £235 from editor, walk up fares Anytime Day Return is only £226, that is the price you pay at any ticket office, taking any train in and out at any time. The £57.60 return fare is also a ticket office walk up fare, not internet.
Where's Bungle when you need him?
Thanks, but I haven't got the time, nor the inclination, to start taking extra days off and staying in B&Bs.
Depending on when you're travelling, it might work out cheaper to buy two singles rather than a return ticket.
I never go to London by train unless it's for work, as they will pay. It's a complete rip off.
The coach is so much cheaper, and not a bad journey. What about coach to Bristol and then train the rest of the way?
Trainline says 76.10 UK Sterling return?

Now try and find a train that gets you to Cardiff by 10.15am.
Anyhow I've managed to change the time of the meeting (to discuss the funeral) so I'll just be ripped the standard £76.
Ah! OK. All the best with everything anyway.
You can pay the best part of £50 for a return to London from Reading - standing, and unlikely to even have a wall to lean against - at peak times. That’s a 30 minute journey.
I just tried the fare for the same journey, 4th January.
Exactly as Editor screen grabbed - £234.
It’s insane, thousand pounds for a family of four.
I can get a sleeper berth on a 1,500 mile train to Hong Kong from here for about sixty quid.
A few weeks ago I did Frecciarossa executive class, £50 for a journey about the same as London-Cardiff, albeit off peak. Oh and you get use of a six seat in-carriage meeting room, with sockets for HDMI feeds to a big screen.
When do you need to be there editor? If I am not working and you can get a bus to Bristol, I'll happily take you to Cardiff just for the petrol money x
Thanks for the offer but I've shelled out £76 for a later train.
