Great starts to albums

london england, consider yourself...WARNED!!

read a good article with hank shocklee, and supposedly the plan had been that whats now side B of nation of millions was meant to be side a - so the record would have opened with Show 'Em Whatcha Got ! They spotted that it would be better the toher way round just a few days before the deadline decision.

I always liked the beginning of Rhythmn Nation by Janet Jackson. At the time is was a pretty groundbreaking use of samples/panning/pitchsifting.

It still sounds OK today too :)

I used to be into this album :o curious to hear what it sounds like today - okay at best i think!

I was thinking of doing this thread after listening to the Rolling Stones' 'Let it Bleed' the other day - the opening of 'Gimme Shelter' is just so bloody brilliant.

Cornelius - Fantasma starts with Mic Check. Great intro on a beast of an album imo

Seconded. That intro is wicked, sample from Shogun Assassin, which is a turd film

Thirded - but Shogun Assasin sample is an awesome start - but the way it blends into the first track on the album is a little dissapointing. The first track is a great track - but the track and the intro never seemed to me to gel that well.

I propose the first few bars of Ride's Leave Them All Behind at the start of Going Blank Again.

That's a good one.

I like the opener to Led Zeppelin I personally. 'Communication Breakdown' is a great track.
