The Manic Street Preachers - We're All Bourgeois Now (originally recorded by the McCarthys)

Sorry for being horribly pedantic, but they were called McCarthy (not The McCarthy's)![]()

Were they the "should the bible be banned" lot? It was on a flexidisc from the NME and stuck in the head rather.
from the protest song thread - The Pogues - And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda
Ooh, I've not heard that. I should give it a listen. It's an awesome song, but the only version of it I have is by June Tabor, most of whose solo stuff is a bit too *worthy* for my taste.
Julie Driscoll Brian Auger and the Trinity -Light my Fire
the Fatima Mansions' version of Everything I Do (I do It For You) is both brilliant and slightly terrible at the same time...
A great tune, never actually clicked until about the 20th listen! Think I had it on the Manics 'Suicide is Painless' cover CD single.
Really like Flaming Lips version of Seven Nation Army

In a cross post move from the best drumming thread
Sandie Shaw - Sympathy For The Devil
seriously, it's fantastic.
Johnny Cash's Hurt is one of those rare songs that really isn't a cover any more, it's his.
Welldone on not thinking that's the original.See also: Tainted Love by Soft Cell. A spectacular version, and probably the best cover ever I reckon.

Yeh the original is wonderful, love northern soul. I can see why you don't think of them as the same song as they are very different. I just got sick of Soft Cells version as it was played to death, i think even Marc Almond got sick of performing it.I like them both very much, in very different ways. I think of them as not being the same song really. The original's excellent.
Oh 'Hurt' by Johnny Cash is amazing and up there as one of the best cover versionsIt was played to death. But I think there's enough distance now and the original's well known enough to be able to appreciate what an amazing cover it is. As I say, I think it's the best cover of all time. "Hurt" comes in at a very very close second.
. The video is very moving too, got quite emotional when i watched it for the first time

I cry like a baby whenever I see it. In fact the missus and I were listening to the album in the car with tears streaming down our cheeks last weekend.
Must be age.
