Great Cover Versions

The Gourds - Gin & Juice

is

there's a really good bossa nova version of Love Will Tear Us Apart, not sure who by - Marc something?

the Fatima Mansions' version of Everything I Do (I do It For You) is both brilliant and slightly terrible at the same time...

David Bowie- Cactus (Pixies)
The Breeders- Happiness is a Warm Gun (Beatles)
Manics- We Are All Bourgeois Now (McCarthy)
Queens of the Stone Age- Everybody's Gonna be Happy (Kinks)
Nouvelle Vague- Too Drunk to Fuck (Dead Kennedys)

worst idea of 2008 so far..

Billy Stewart's version of Summertime.

Word.

on the worst covers, and indeed ideas, front all bets are now off as

The Manic Street Preachers cover Umber ella, ella, ella,

I kid you not, available for download and every tiny bit as humourless, graceless and stupid as you imagine it's going to be

JC's "Hurt" is the best for me, but there's these too;

Joey Ramone - "What A Wonderful World"
Carter USM - "Trouble"
Sugababes - "I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor"
Squarepusher - "Love Will Tear Us Apart"

Johnny Cash's Hurt is one of those rare songs that really isn't a cover any more, it's his.

My list (the above goes without saying):

Pixies - Winterlong
Pixies - I've Been Waiting for You
Neil Young - Farmer John
Ramones - Can't Seem to Make You Mine
Replicants - Life's A Gas
Husker Du - Sunshine Superman
The Fall - Lost In Music
Arab Strap - You Shook Me All Night Long

Ziggy Stardust by Bauhaus, Too Drunk to Fuck by Nouvelle Vague and Jealous Guy by Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music.

Pantera's version of Black Sabeth's Planet Caravan. I prefer it to the original.

Been listening to Richard Cheseman a bit lately. He probably doesn't count. Just novelty factor.

The album that came off ("If I were a Carpenter") is brilliant! My favourite is Shonen Knife doing "Top of the World" and Redd Kross doing "Yesterday Once More" is pretty good too. Must dig it out later and give it a spin. Thanks for reminding me! :)

American Music Club - Goodbye to Love, from the same album.

Lemonheads - Luka

In a cross post move from the best drumming thread

Sandie Shaw - Sympathy For The Devil

seriously, it's fantastic.

the animals - house of the rising sun.
nirvana - man who sold the world.
madness - it must be love

also additional votes for soft cells 'tainted love' and the banshees' 'dear prudence'.

Manfred Mann - Blinded By The Light
The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter
Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
Talking Heads - Take Me To The River
Run DMC - Walk This Way
