i can't read this without crying :o

I'm reading this thread absolutely enthralled !
The Mousehole Cat - just bliss :)

Nicola Bayley was a close friend when we were at St. Martins. Three years we shared spaces and canteen lunches, a lovely, lovely girl. Oft known as 'the cat lady' she used to work in tiny paintings.
The other close one in our group was Steve, my flatmate for eight years, you'll know his work, for possibly younger children.

Sadly Steve died in 2004 at only 56, but my word has he left a legacy. He helped millions of children all over the world learn to read :)

Dogger and the complete 'Alfie' are wonderful books. Especially when Alfie gets locked inside the house and works out how to open the door all by himself. :D

Just got Rosa a Shirley Hughes collection - Dogger and Alfie Gives a Hand big hits so far. Rosa's dog is now called Dogger (or it was for 2 days, this morning it's called Barker). I'm chuffed with this book - there's so much crap out there and this really does get it from their point of view - I wish I'd got it earlier.

this is for older kids, but i thought i'd bung it on here anyway. i bought it for my 8yo for christmas, mostly cos i wished someone had bought it for me  it's easily read in small chunks but some of the words/concepts are prolly a little beyond her atm.

it includes things like: how to uncover a mystery, sound map, altered states, miniature ecosystems, collecting type ( ) and becoming leonard cohen :D

My kid got The Catnapping Cat by Judy Allen for Christmas, personally dedicated to him by the author, he loves it.

Every child should read this. A girl swims from land's end to John o groat's via rivers, lakes, streams and a paddling pool on the motorway. It is written in rhyme and is just beautiful. I used to laugh like a drain reading this as a kid and I still laugh reading it now.
