Shut up turncoat. Border control will revoke your Southern passport shortly and put you on a compulsory (saveloy and eel based) re-education plan.

Milesy is just a yob though, I bet he eats haggis as well.

Feel sorry for northerners really, they don't get proper fish and chips like we do, no skate, haddock or rock.......just fish. I went nuts when I went to a chippy in Lancashire once and asked for some skate and they said "we only do fish."

Me and the other half are at loggerheads over the issue of gravy on chips.

Me being a Southerner, I think it's frankly vile. Gravy on fried foods is just wrong. The other half being a Northerner can't get enough of it. I did try it in a chippy in Stockport, but it didn't taste right (I was also shocked to discover that they don't have savaloys up North)

Stockport is shite, I wouldnt trust their chippies

So is the gravy a north/south divide thing?

I tried to get chips and gravy in London years ago and couldnt find any, I know all the chippies up ere (North West) sell chips and Gravy.
After reading a few posts many people find it wrong the idea of chips and gravy but i was amazed in one London Cafe to find jellied eels and mashed spuds, ya fuckin sick sick bastards:)

gravy is great on chips but it has to be a specific type of northern chip shop gravy

This is of course the right answer. There is one type of gravy that goes beautifully with chips but it can only be found in a very few places, mostly in the north.

Any other sort of gravy is just mush-making. You might as well go the whole-hog & ask for custard. :p

Right sort of gravy my arse. What do they do to make this magical substance:

A) Make a fine gravy by heating the scraps and oil from the chip pan, adding a special potato stock that they make especially for the purpose.

or

B) Empty some chemical-laden grit granules to water and stir to make a sloppy brown liquid of the lowest grade.

Answers on a postcard to 'They'll eat anything as long as it's with gravy - I even hear those in the NW eat babies with Bisto' competition...

;)

Gravy, or any other sauce on chips is fucking gross. Chips should remain dry and crispy, otherwise they simply become a disgusting, sloppy mess consisting of saucy, mashed-up potato slop.

Gravy next to chips, perhaps in a seperate vessel, is great. It will take over the world.

REGIONALIST!!111!!

I'm a Midlander, and gravy and chips rock my world. But so does salad cream and chips too.

is that a north south thing

(Salad cream) that just like mayo

the very idea of it is turning my stomach. blee.

what is it the gravy of? ffs...

also, i observe that the figures have been skewed by more than one midlander voting as a southerner. everyone knows the midlands are up north

Gravy and chips - divine. Never seen them in England yet cause I've never been north .... maybe I should go just for the chips and gravy. It's dead common in Australia, I didn't realise it had a north/south divide.

Bisto works fine :)

I say "yay" but only as a dip. I'm very against drowning the whole bag of chips in gravy (or any other sauce) because a) some chips get more sauce than others, like those poor buggers at the bottom, and b) I don't want to get sauce on my fingers when I pick them up :)

Curry is better than gravy though.
