...and back to the matter in hand....I prefer grated cheese in sandwiches cos I like the texture better, particularly if I'm going to put pickle in it.

Best cheese sarnie: grated cheese, finely chopped onion, mix up with salad cream into a delightful mush. Leave for an hour to sort of permeate and then slap between white bread. So wrong but so RIGHT!

Swap the onion for spring onion and the salad cream for mayo, and I'll agree with you.

I buy ready grated cheese as it's cheaper than buying a block of the same weight.
You buy ready mashed potato too, you must be a marketing man's dream.

Ready grated cheese is generally rubbish quality, plus they put a chemical called Anti-Caking Agent in it, to stop the cheese sticking together.
 
I like grated cheese in sandwiches more than slices, because I'm crap at slicing and always end up with one chunk of cheese in the sandwich that's far too thick and somewhat spoils the bite that it ends up being in.
