Grant Sacked?

Sky's reporting Hughes is on a two-man shortlist at Chelsea despite the interest from Man City. I think he'd be a great appointment. I know as a player he was only at Stamford Bridge for a few seasons but he really was fantastic for us.

I'd like to see him as manager ahead of the other candidates. My only doubt would be Abranavich. Hughes is no ass-kisser, and if Kenyon has had to persuade RA to include Hughes, which seems to be the case, he might not last too long if he speaks his mind too often.

Sky is also reporting, though, that, wherever he goes, he'll probably take Bentley and Santa Cruz with him. This could be one reason he's shot up to the short list - Chelsea might fancy those players if the predicted clear-out at the Bridge does happen this summer.

Sky reckon Chelsea are in talks with Ancelotti. Hmm... not sure how I feel about him to be honest. He's won the CL twice but was also manager when Milan threw away a three-goal lead to a mediocre Liverpool side in the final. They also finished fifth in the Italian league last season. I'd much prefer someone up and coming like Hughes.

And they didn't even make the cl this year, i was thinking Chelsea were gonna get Mancini. Hughes is off to Man City though it seems.

I'm beginning to wonder if the Chelsea manager's job is too much of a poisoned chalice for anyone to really want it now. Who would want to agree anything with a slug like Kenyon - given his track record for back-stabbing Chelsea managers in the last couple of years? God forbid we get stuck with Big Sham!!

Ancelotti seems to definitely be out of the picture now - all he wants from Chelsea is Drogba and Sheva.

As yet another Italian manager rules himself out of the job today, Ken Bates seizes an opportunity to stick the boot in.........

Bates is quoted in the Sun as saying: "Either he (Abramovich) knows what he is doing or he doesn't. And I know where my money lies.

advertisement"In fact, the basic problem with Chelsea is that they have an owner who doesn't know anything about football. And he, in turn, surrounds himself with lackeys who know precious little themselves.

"What do people like Bruce Buck, Peter Kenyon and Eugene Tenenbaum really know about the game? And that is what makes the job impossible. After the way Chelsea have treated their last three managers, why should anyone want the job?

"Regardless of whether you agree Grant should have been appointed in the first place, he still went within a missed penalty of winning the Champions League and within a whisker of winning the Premier League himself.

"If Alex Ferguson had gone that close, I somehow doubt he would have been rewarded with the sack.

"When they sack people, you always hear the words, 'in the end he went because of his recent record'. So how do Chelsea explain that one away? But then this is the way they act these days. This is the way they run the club.

"After what happened to Claudio Ranieri, Jose Mourinho and now Grant, is it any surprise they are finding it difficult appointing their next manager? "

On the one hand, he's correct in many ways. But can old pirate beard honestly say he treated Chelsea managers any better in his time at the Bridge? You only have to go back as far as Vialli and Gullit to realise that he didn't.

What bothers me is that Chelsea is still no closer to getting a manager - while the best transfer players are signing for other teams.

How can Kenyon and Buck say that they're happy with the way the search for a new manager is progressing when they're making no progress? They're total morons.

No offence to Chelsea fans but it's a sad day for you that Dr Sidebottom seems to be a better guy to work for than Abramovich.
Hughes is a good appointment for any PS side.
Anyway I hope Chelsea get it sorted so we can sit back and relax for the next episode of the Liverpool power struggle.

I'd have much preferred Hughes or Jose, but at this stage I'd settle for Scolari, Deschamps or Rijkaard.

Sacking Jose last year doesn't look so clever now. It's come back to bite them in the arse big time - doesn't look like any half decent manager is ready to commit to Chelsea ......... at least until after the Euros.

Even our CL place doesn't seem like a big enough attraction. Rijkaard's agent says that he hasn't even been approached by Chelsea for the job.
