Grant Sacked?

The racist comments on that page are a disgrace.
sweet suffering jesus, who the fuck uses the word 'coon' in this day and age...

With the way Chelsea is being run there's only 2 types of manager they'll attract: 1)arrogant tossers who think they're guaranteed to win the champions league 2)people who think "fuck it i'll probably get sacked within a few months but'll it'll buy me a nice pad in London"

Yeah! What did Grant ever achieve apart from, err, missing out on Premiership and European Champions League success by an absolute whisker.

Well worth the sack.

Not.

It's fucking hilarious how they are making out that he's some sort of failure, have many other essentially caretaker managers came in and led a team to 2nd in the league and europe?

I've already put my application in. To be fair, I did take Brentford to the Chapions League Final on Football Manager 2007.

Still, it appears that Grant has got £5.2 million off Chelsea in this dismissal, I say good luck to him - from this distance he appeared to be far too decent a human being for that overrated, nouveau-riche, shower of shite.

I liked him. Seemed to have a lot of dignity and there was a fair few racist snipes toward him in the mainstream media. Good luck to the guy and his hot wife.

He did far better than most people though he would,Chelsea coulda imploded after Mourinho was sacked but they were only a poorly taken penalty away from being Champions of Europe,Grants problem with the medja was that he was'nt Jose

I don't know about that, most managers could get top 4 with that squad. He got 2nd more because of the failing of Arse/Pool than because of his own (obviously lacking) tactical nous.

The fact he's been paid off (5.2 million pounds ffs) so quickly hopefully means an early announcement of the new, hopefully old, manager.

It's an interesting view on a manager who failed to win the league on the last day of the season in which Terry and Lampard were long term injured. He would also have won the CL but for Terry's miss- were Europe's top teams also "failing" this past season for Grant to better Mourinho's CL record at Chelsea?

I'm not sure we'll ever know how much or how little Grant had to do with Chelsea's "success" this season. A lot of rumours out of Stamford Bridge (reported today in The Observer) suggest the players neither respected him nor listened to him, that Steve Clarke took training (using Mourinho's methods) and that after the Barnsley Cup debacle the players had a clear-the-air meeting without Grant to work out how they could get back on track. It sounds like Grant has been a bit of a peripheral figure in many ways so his sacking probably shouldn't be that big a surprise.

Lets assume the 'rumours' are even a little accutate.

Why would a manager 'take' training if there was a successful methodology that produced results already in place - wouldn't that be the height of arrogance?

Why would a manager interfere with the power-motivational relationships in a dressing room if they were already highly successful - ditto arrogance?

You remain peripheral if the machine is working at close to optimum, to not do so is plain stupid.

Makes me laugh that everyone not in the business knows so much better, usually with opinions based on tabloid 'leaks'.

Are you Frank Lampard?

To be honest, the idea that the likes of Terry, Drogba, the weasel Cole and Lampard didnt like or respect Grant just makes me like him even more.

Sky Sports News reports that little creep Mourinho having a dig at Grant for winning nothing.

Jesus they fuckers like Mourinho and Terry have just become brands or products with careful advice from PR types to keep their stock high.

Like, do you really think Terry drafted that letter all by himself?

If it was all going so well and didn't need changing why did Abramovich feel the need to get rid of Mourinho in the first place? At the very least, Grant was brought in to improve the style of football and he didn't do that. He also didn't win anything and failed to command the respect of the dressing room or the fans.

I was merely reporting what I've read – The Observer are usually pretty good with their Chelsea insider stuff so I have no reason to think any of it's widely inaccurate (they were the first to report the alleged rift between Terry and Mourinho after the latter left the Bridge).

Neither the players nor the fans have done anything that deserves respect, a more odious bunch of jumped-up shitehawks does not exist anywhere. This was especially clear when Mourinho left, and there was that demonstration in his favour that was so inappropriately emotional even Kopites would have blushed.

At least Utd have the saving grace that some of their fans despise what their club has become, Chelsea seem to have a fervent belief that they deserve to win everything and that second in the league / a post away from winning the CL is unacceptable failure. I just hope they get what they deserve.

Of course, why would any Chelsea fan have an emotional attachment to Mourinho? I mean, he didn't do much to warrant it, did he?

United's and Chelsea's situations regarding ownership is very different though. United were prospering financially before the Glazers and they're hated because the club are now in a lot of debt. On the other hand, Chelsea were mere days from being in the same kind of financial shit as Leeds. Abramovich saved Chelsea from a similar fate so it's little wonder the fans love him for it.

Only part of the reason for Grant's sacking is down to a lack of silverware. It's also because he hasn't delivered the stylish football Abramovich wanted him to and the fact the players believe he isn't fit to tie Jose's laces when it comes to coaching. He should never have been appointed in the first place.

Does anyone seriously think Grant is a top-of-the-Premier class manager?

Why did he turn up for training? 5 point 2 million quid.

And it was his signing Anelka that lost it. ;)

Can't see why they wouldn't bearing in mind how he changed Chelsea's season about after taking over, how he took them past where Jose did in the CL etc. Why wouldn't they?

As I've already pointed out, it's debatable how much he had to do with Chelsea's season. Most of the players thought he was a clueless fuckwit and followed what Steve Clarke and John Terry said instead.

Terry really seemed to be giving him some great advice on Weds night after missing that penalty.

Unless you have a very credible source, that is just conjecture.

Sorry I don't understand this bit.

As I've already pointed out, The Observer clearly have an insider at Stamford Bridge – they had a load of info about what happened when Mourinho left (never retracted) and there's another very interesting story about Grant's relationship with the players in there today. I think there's a lot more to it than conjecture, mainly as it just confirmed a lot of stuff I'd heard all season about the situation at Chelsea (I work for a national newspaper but not on the sports desk).

I love the idea of shadowy insiders.:)
