Here is some analysis of the National:
1) Essential, pick only horses between 9 and 12 years old, i.e. younger horses have a poor record in this race because younger horses prefer speed to stamina! (no horse under 8 in the last 66 years and no horse over 12 in the last 83 years has won the Grand National! 7 of the last 10 winners have been aged 9 or 10;
2) Check if your horse has a handicap rating of at least 135!
3) The above handicap rating is linked to weight. This means the Handicapper has horses weighted within 10st 6lb and 11 stone 5lb;
4) Getting the 4+ mile distance is essential, your horse must have won over 3.5 miles;
5) Essential, must have run in at least 10 chasers before and in big races too (Welsh National, Bet Fred Gold Cup, i.e. races worth £15,000 or more prize money!
6) Essential, choose only horses that have been placed (1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th) in these races, otherwise they will not win;
7) Essential, do not select fast going horses or horses who love heavy going - this year it is good or good to soft;
There are 13 horses that fit this bill; Ollie Magern, Sir Rembrandt, Innox, Puntal, Clan Royal, Forest Gunner, Ballycassidy, Garvivonnian, Heros Collonges, Jack High, Juveignour, Iris Royal and Baron Windrush;
