Google Video censors Iraq footage? Apparently not.

Why would this be censored in the US and not the rest of the world?

Hmmmm. Let me offer something from personal experience ...

The US military personnel shown in the footage were/are not identified by the reporter/camera crew. There is probably no way to do so now without a lot of trouble ... and, frankly, they have better things to do. Without ID, they can get no "permission" to use their identifiable images.

Now, here's the Big Conspirasy exposed ... it's long been an unwritten "policy" that we do not show any footage where individaul military members can be identified ... unless we have their (and presumably the military's) permission. The Powers That Be feel the folks back home might not handle it so well if they see their fair-haired boys and girls going in harms way.

Simple as that.

At the risk of repeating myself ... :D

if google are using censorship, its very weak, someone from america can just use the uk google or any other google for that matter except china of course.

editor: I was unaware that you were a journalist, so what kinda stuff do you write about?

That's why I deleted my post. Mind you, old Tom's been having a pop on several fronts recently, so he's been pushing it for some time.

But I've never liked it when people attack me for my 'real life' work while sitting comfortably behind their own anonymous online ID. It's not really fair, is it?

It doest really matter if google did meant to do it or not. It raises the issue that they are in a *position* to do so if the right pressure was exerted.

No, your quite right, Its not fair unless they show their work and be judged too.
But who are we to judge anyway?

..and i gues my 'ban em' joke didnt go down too well. :D
