Asus didn't really know what it was doing when it launched netbooks with the eee 701, or so it seems from the way they handled the developing market. But the suppliers of second generation netbooks will know exactly what they're up to, and what they're up against. The Atom processor is a big part of the plans, because of its advantages for battery life. Intel will want to shift Atom processors and oems will want to help them.
If google do this well, it's going to roll back MS on the netbook and other mobile computing devices. And it'll be good on Mum's laptop too.
