Google to launch it's own OS (operating system) next year...

I guess the brand awareness comes from advertising. How many ads have you seen for Chrome? If google really want to push, they have the cash to mount an advertising campaign on the mass media like few companies could.

Asus didn't really know what it was doing when it launched netbooks with the eee 701, or so it seems from the way they handled the developing market. But the suppliers of second generation netbooks will know exactly what they're up to, and what they're up against. The Atom processor is a big part of the plans, because of its advantages for battery life. Intel will want to shift Atom processors and oems will want to help them.

If google do this well, it's going to roll back MS on the netbook and other mobile computing devices. And it'll be good on Mum's laptop too.

There's some good comment and analysis here:

Jesus what a load of bollocks, that guy doesnt know what he is talking about.

The distro is in no way targeted at enterprise buyers (obviously!).

It should be painfully fucking obvious why you would roll your own distro rather than supporting a existing one.

If the general consumer didnt care about browsers, no one would use firefox.

What a fail of a post.

but the whole marketing of google is working upwards, so to speak....

1) websites
2) online apps
3) browsers
4) mobile OS
5) netbook OS
6) desktop OS
7) server OS
8) the cloud
9) the world
