Installing now. Anyone on it yet?
Windows only: Lively, a free Second-Life-like 3D chat program created by Google, has recently launched. Why should you pay attention to the umpteenth avatar-guided chat platform to hit the web? For starters, while it requires a small package download and installation, the program itself runs tidily inside Firefox or Internet Explorer, allowing you to switch it on and off with relative ease (and with far fewer crashes and less over-crowding than a certain 3D chat program). Secondly, you can embed your own chat room, or any other you find, into a blog or personal page with YouTube-like ease. The Google Blog post announcing Lively has more details and an introductory video. Lively is a free download/plug-in for Windows systems only.

Well, I'm sat on Monster Isle and not a lot seems to be happening (the words 'joining room' seem permanently displayed). Impressive graphics and sounds - in the ice world you can see under the ice and look up at the stars!

Come and join me - someone!

Oh, it's PC only, btw.

It's was stuck on 'joining room' continually and there doesn't seem to be anything on Monster Island except some lava lamps?!

Then I went to one of the more lively rooms where the same joining room problem happened before causing a BSOD. It's a new PC too.

You had me until the last line :(

I'm going to give it one more chance. I've tried it in Firefox and IE6. Both times have failed to join a room. PLUS someone's already taken the username skyscraper101

If I get a BSOD again, it's being deleted.

By the way, it won't work on Parallels on a Mac, or at least it won't for me. You can download and install it and even create an avatar and try to sign in, but when you try to go to a room that isn't your own, it borks.

09-07-2008, 14:50 - Bored now.

That is either a very bad product or a terrible indicatment of fast food culture.

The thing is it is full of people just stood around not talking
found one person to talk to then i got bored anyway

If anyone can get past 'joining room' (f**ked if I can), maybe we could set up an Urban room/island/whatever?

I got in without a problem, but it does seem that most people are having difficulties :(

urban room would be funny but only if enough people bothered

On the support thread at Google Groups, someone suggested the following for all those stuck at the 'Joining Room' screen, which works for some but not for others (me included :():

Solution:
1. Go to the Lively main page.
2. Enter the catalog and select an avatar (the first time I selected in the process of joining the room)
3. Sign-in and click "Add To My Inventory" (in the "You Have" I had already "3")
4. Retry to join a room

Someone also said that the people in their office on wireless connections can connect, but those using cabled connections can't. Which is weird.

Anyway, it sounds fucking rubbish, but I'd like to find this out for myself sometime this millenium.

NB: It is only in Beta at the moment, so not the final product.
