Word processing
My typing is ok,, not as quick as a quick person, but it'll do,,
and, just incase anyone was wondering(i doubt it), I can actually type with the correct gramma when concentrating,,

No I doubt Derian would say that to geminisnake because she isn't :)

Anyway - my lovely snakey girl - I will PM you the email I got sent if you like (can you really speak Dutch?!). The proofreading I did was via friends and old jobs and I didn't get paid massive amounts to be honest. And for transcribing interviews, I think I got paid about £100 an interview. Which I thought was fantastic until I started doing it and realised it took me such a long time to do each one that it didn't work out at much more than minimum wage. But - I could do it in my own time (middle of the night sometimes) and it was all done by post so suited me fine at the time. And the same goes for proofreading (although you can make more cash if you're good or have a particular technical skill).

If you want to do it properly, joining the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (sfep.org) and doing a course isn't a bad way to go.

Not necessarily because I appreciate it if people give me advice or help me with problems.

I'm no good on the detail of the different work involved but if you do decide to go it alone there's loads of stuff about what it's actually like/things to take into consideration that I'd be happy to mention.

Awwwr, thanks Miss Daisy.

It IS all perfectly possible - but you have to get the work from somewhere. With my own business I mainly get work from small business owners or individuals. And then they refer their friends/family/colleagues/contacts. After a while it snowballs. For instance - if you do a list of who you know and what they do - chances are that there's one or two people that need work e.g. typing done and would love to have someone they could call on without the hassle of employing someone. One bit of work leads to another ....

But you have to start right at the basics - what can you do - and who do you know. Once you have that and market yourself getting work coming in, then the other stuff surfaces, tax, time available, self employed -v - incorporation etc.

But be clear about what you can offer, then use your contacts. That's the bit that takes the most effort.

that's quite funny but doesn't proofreading for the illiterate deserve its own thread

fuck it, i'll take my WAY too vague and subjective and evidently irritating enquiry elsewhere and this can be the freelance proofreading thread :)

If that's your idea of good grammar, then frankly you don't have a future in proofreading.

Go back to maths - or just get a fucking job, you unpleasant waste of space

Leaving them out inadvertently is forgivable. Putting them in is embarrassingly ignorant.

not really, as it's self evidently an error
if more careful souls than i didn't make such elementary errors then there would be no proofreaders :(

and now this thread should die a death hopefully more pleasant and less distended than its abortive existence

/tries not to wee all over own threads in future :o

Better to turn into summat positive eh?

Loads of people want to work from home.

We got a mixed bag of folk here - yes?

Don't get stressed/angsty, just give a little.
