Good indian food delivery in/to Brixton?

Glad you enjoyed it. The Balti Deluxe has never been my favourite dish there to be fair - you used to get it free if you ordered over £20*. Better the specials, including that one with an egg in that I forget the name of.

Khans is definitely worth a go as well. Their dahl's the best for miles around imo

*Reckon they'll still give you that deal if you ask btw.

After all the talk of curry, I put my money where my mouth is and ordered a feat from Gousia for last night's post darts dinner.

Thumbs up again, although it wasn't perfect. Great parathas and chapatis, an excellent veggie special with paneer, herbs and spinach (shabjee something?) and another great special involving lamb with an omelette on top.

Even got my free Balti deluxe after being cheeky and asking for it after going past the £20 limit.

Only real criticism - the butter chicken was a little sweet, but I'm used to a more fiery flavour than the buttery kormaesque dish which arrived. Dahl could be hotter too.

Mirch Masala has branches in Tooting, Norbury, Wembley(ish) and now Aldgate. Lahore Kebab House is Whitechapel/Aldgate. Can't really recommend them both highly enough
I went to the Norbury one a little while ago with a friend and was really disappointed. It was far too salty. Not pleasant.

I've only been to Hot Stuff recently and it was on great form.

I did however let the friendly owner choose what we were going to eat and he did a fine job. Fantastic mixed bhajees - about as far removed from the normal deep fried greaseballs as you could ask for, chilli paneer and some wonderful mains including an excellent masala fish.

In no position to compare it to its past, but it was excellent that night - the rewarding thing being that the dishes were genuinely different from the norm. Khans does the 'vanilla'/ordinary indian dishes very well, but Hot Stuff boasted some different, almost homemade tasting, things on the menu. Reasonably priced too - we left absolutely stuffed for about £15 a head. Any more eaten and I fear we'd have popped.

:)

Hot Stuff was reviewed in both the Observer and the Telegraph at the weekend. I wonder what's happened to put it in the media spotlight?

Hot Stuff... I found the dishes far too greasy, and one of them tasted very clearly of cigarette ash. To be fair, they didn't charge for that one, but they also didn't give any explanation even after they'd taken it back to the chef for tasting. A bit suss, I thought. It's meant to be ravingly good though.

Coriander on Kennington Lane. They deliver to Brixton. I don't like sitting in there much (been a couple of times) but the takeaway is lovely. And you get free Cobra.:)

I ordered in from Zest for the first time tonight - quick and tasty. Good sized portions -chicken jalfrezi was tender, not oily and hot without losing any flavour.

Gousia still in the lead, but I'm pleased to report that The Chutney ain't half bad either.

My gut feel, admittedly based on a whole one Chutney order vs a whole load of Gousia deliveries, is that the Chutney is safer and perhaps more consistent. Food from the Chutney was a little more expensive, a little more predictable and blander, but the cooking was good, ungreasy and with hefty chunks of meat. Gousia can be more of a mixed bag, but there are some phenomenal, unexpected dishes that deliver more ime.

Thumbs up to ChrisFilter suggestions of Chicken Achari and that Chicken dish with the pickles mind - top dishes and the best things we ordered from The Chutney.

Agree on mixed bag from Gousia - some of the dishes can be a bit predictable - but the garlic handi, bengal handi and king prawn albela are absolutely outstanding imo!

Need now!! :)

I like the Chutney, but have recently experimented with Gousia. I liked the online ordering, very useful. The food was good too.

Zest on India, as mentioned a couple of times already, is well worth a try - they're lovely people too. I particularly like the fact that they use loads of clearly really fresh and different ingredients in their dishes - not like the idenitkit curries you get in some places, which seem only to differ in colour and heat.

Their brinjal bhaji is just awesome. :-)

I'm glad they're getting a few mentions - I'm very pleased I've found them and have now had more than a dozen meals from them with no complaints at all :)

Not bad at all- the Achari starter was definitely the fave. What's that dish with the pickles called btw - can't remember and its beginning to get to me.

Surprised you don't like Gousia more by that reckoning - compared to the Chutney it's got loads of unusual dishes. If Crispy was here, he could probably daw an impressive graph featuring Khan's on on end (excellent traditional dishes, consistent delivery, but a little staid' meandering to Gousia at the other ('high variety, genuinely unusual dishes...but mercurial') on the other.

The Chutney's well pitched in the middle somewhere.

I order my takeaway through hungryhouse.co.uk or justeat.co.uk 'cos I'm lazy, and Gousia isn't on 'em.

The dish with the pickles is Achari.

Not that I ever use it, but Gousia's website (gousia.co.uk) seems to be e-commerce enabled, so you can fill yourself up a virtual basket full of curries, staying away from real social contact and having to interact with those pesky people in the real world.

It used to have a minimum order of £50 on the online order thing, maybe they've changed that.

Had a Chutney last night, was terrible. They've definitely got two chefs, one of whom is terrible, one of whom is great.

The only time I used the Gousia website it didn't have a minimum order. you couldn't pay on line though, just order. I thought it was pretty handy, seeing as I didn't have a menu so needed to go online to look at that anyway.

"Zest's Surprise" is £9.95, menu says it's a "carefully selected meal, made from the finest ingredients, simply order and wait....."

I've always been too hungry to risk a dud choice, has anyone here ever had one?

Just want to know if any of the regular Zest customers on this thread have tasted that particular dish. Looks like it's in with the house specials on the menu.

Not ordering tonight as I'm Thai curried out at the mo, but might do later this week.
