Vampire Weekend just sounds like some lazy students picking two random words and sticking them together.
The main reason why I was once half-asleep and came up with "Soviet Safari" and later decided to use it as my mySpace handle, but wouldn't climb a stage on that :D

Most bands' names are pants, unless those you can associate with the sound like Boards of Canada, Suede or Slowdive. I've always disliked "Stone Roses" because it sounded like a goth band, which they were at some point early on. Other band names that are good are those that work well either spoken or written - The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream, Roxy Music, Nine Inch Nails, Buzzcocks or Flaming Lips.

Primal Scream is the best one named so far. The only other one that's up there is Sonic Youth.

Although honourable mention has to be made of Butthole Surfers

Send More Paramedics is the best name for a band ever

I am quite proud of my 'side project' DJ Fannycrabs and MC Cream

both bands are pretty shit tho tbf :(

PS is good but it's admitted grudgingly as they sound so fucking cack.
Sonic Youth is good but I used to get bored of the jokers.
Butthole Surfers yes:D
My fave country rock band of the 90s was Slobberbone. That was a good un.

No it was a high altitude reconnaisance aircraft. Gary Powers got shot down flying one over Russia. Didn't carry bombs.

I always thought The High Numbers was a good name (what The Who called themselves before The Who).

What's the worst band name then?

I've always been strongly against The Alan Parsons Project.

It sounds like something he should be handing in as coursework.

I'm in one of them, my GF's in another one, the other's just a band we know whose name I like. :D

You guys have no taste whatsoever.

Band names can only have two words in them.

The only exception when they are allowed three words is if the first word is "The"

Ooh yeah, Elbow. Very bad. Athlete. That's another one.

The monosyllabic meaningless ones are pretty bad, too. In the 90's there was a rash of 'em: Blur, Curve, Lush, Moose etc. Surprising that Blur went on to have inventive songs with such a drab name. They were called bloody Seymour first.

Candy Panic or Panic Attack or Candy Attack would all be acceptable but Candy Panic Attack is over-egging the omelette.
