Goldfrapp..

It's just really great pop music .... electronic music is hard to make sexy, but she certainly manages it.

Cracking live show as well.

not when i saw her. She twatted around in her nan's pants trying to look kinky while some bored dancers wondered if it was nearly over and the band looked like they were doing their tax returns.

not when i saw 'em either (see above)

they did do a cover of 'yes sir, i can boogie' which was ok. other than that, tedious dirge from beginning to end.

And you never did "burn" me that CD..

I would be happy to "burn" you that CD, Hollis. You'll just have to remind me what exactly I was meant to burn on the CD :o

But you're so very wrong abut Goldfrapp, so very wrong :(

That's exactly what I mean. It's that whole "Here comes an ironic cover version, aren't we clever" kind of thing that annoys me about her. I know the best pop is often silly and fake, but that's just taking the piss.

i loved the first album, liked the second album, went to see them live and they sucked. no stage presence, no audience interaction did nothing new with the songs, it was just like sitting in your room listening to the CD (which i havent done since the gig - it was that bad)

Goldfrapp = Islington

:D @ above statement

I'm seeing Goldfrapp live in a couple of weeks. Quite looking forward to it as I like some of their tunes. Not being rude but I think people on here might be too old to like Goldfrapp, not the other way around. :p

That's nothing - try listening to some "dj" mix 32 records in 10 minutes.. :( :(

Oh, that's rubbish – taste improves with age.

Except in Hollis's case.

It's harldy ground breaking stuff. The filmic first album is better than the latter two glam rock synth stomp albums - but they are'nt too bad either.

She ain't no sexy symbol mind - with or without the tail.

so is it because we're young? or because we're old farts?

you're blowing it, hollis

Tackling it from all angles.. Clearly alot of people here find the music difficult to listen to.. different reasons.

Old farts like andy2002 don't understand the montage element, for the kidz there aint enough bleeps per second.

Worra load of rubbish that is. I can hardly tell you the number of kids on my bus wishing for an 80s revival, pounding out the Goldfrapp from their mobile phones. Or maybe not - I reckon Hollis is more her target market.

She's a bit of an irritating one trick shetland pony that Goldfrapp, albeit one dressed in 80s garb. About as youthful in appeal as our Cliff.

Goldfrapp is as 'difficult' as the Sun Tea Time quickie

That might be interesting, though, because you'd have no idea what's coming next. Unfortunately, with Goldfrapp, you always know what's coming next...

I doubt whether teenagers are listening to Goldfrapp much. Surely she's aimed at thirtysomethings who like that vaguely 1982 synth sound and want a bit of harmless raunch with their lattes.

Yes - and that's what you were going to 'burn' me.. modern stuff with an 80's synth sound..

Surely if the kids are listening to Infernal 'From Paris to Berlin' then its not much of a leap from there to Goldfrapp is it? :)

Doubtful.

Well her target market certainly ain't youthful people. I reckon she's aimed at the same market as Dido - supper club stay at home 'socialites' who reckon the 80s twang adds 'edge' to their dinner parties. It's all so 'simply referential' dahling...

My arse. File under Katie Melua and other twee acts.

First album is great...the rest just good quality pop...it's not trying to change the world.

"Let it Take You" is a class well structured song...

Sounds like you're really angry.

Oh yeah, like The Hacker.

I have made a note in my notepad and will see to the matter. I can't promise anything quickly (perhaps you have been waiting a year already) but it is in the notepad... which is a start.

Nope. Not at all.

If I was forced to Goldfrapp perhaps....

She's quite unpleasant IRL mind. I met her in Bristol many, many years ago and she was a bit of a princess then. Gawd knows what she's like now.

Some interesting influences, from the BBC profile.

"She came into contact with the UK soundtrack composer, Will Gregory in the late 90s and the pair found a shared interest in various kinds of music such as 60s French pop, Weimar Republic cabaret as well as movie soundtracks and electronica. A dramatic, emotional sound can be heard in their work, which combines avant garde production and electronics with traditional musical values. "
