Golden Oldies

One of my favourite 60's psych tunes. Possibly not pre-65. Or even a golden oldie. Anyhow:

(The video's a 'fan's tribute' type affair, btw - ie it's shite.)

Great idea for a thread

Hand cranking it to pre-WWII for your audio delectation... well apart from a couple

The Washboard Serenaders doing their brilliant version of "Dark Eyes/St. Louis Blues" with the lead trumpet part performed with a kazoo and a glass. There's only three recorded Washboard Serenaders tracks left so quite remarkable how there's some films of these guys, interestingly this clip is from one of the very first films to feature a wholly black cast. Absolute Magic.

Instrumental version of "Happy Feet" by Paul Whiteman and his Rhythm Boys, some great dancing.

Annette Hanshaw performing "We Just Couldnt Say Goodbye" from "Captain Henry's Showboat". Despite being a very popular recording artist Ms Hanshaw was a trifle shy and this was the only piece of film ever to feature her. A great shame because this is far from her best tune.

Helen Kane doing "Button up your overcoat", Kane was very much the inspiration for Betty Boop, although being three dimensional was infinitely cuter.

Roy Smeck banging out an incredible version of "Tiger Rag", I know there's a few ukulele players on here, watch this, weep but try not to burn your ukes in despair.

Nicholas Brothers with Cab Calloway doing "Jumping Jive" in the film "Stormy Weather".

Three tunes by Leadbelly, with film and in colour from 1945.

A unknown, well to me, modern German band doing a cracking version of "Sweet Georgia Brown" at a German Jazz festival. Swing and jazz was very popular in the 20's and 30's in Germany but ultimately fell out of favour for being of African origin and a large number of it's native jazz musicians being Jewish. They've recovered lost ground with a stunning washboard solo in this video. Older Urbanites may remember this as the theme of the Harlem Globetrotters.

Hep! Hep! Hurray!

heres one for magic sam...magic sam boogie...angus should be paying royalties

Yeah that's from the American Folk Blues tour of Europe in 1969.(so possibly a bit late for this thread). There is another great clip of Earl Hooker (Sam is using his guitar in the clip) from the same show.

Both died the following year :(

No I just randomly posted, just like I do on every other thread.

Odd that the post with eight tracks gets no responses, but that one did though, shows that conforming to OPs get thee nowhere... :D

Bloody iconoclast :p

And if you were really hard, you'd have chosen something from Eskimo :p
