How's it going so far? :)

really well actually, thanks for asking :)

the only thing I'm noticing is that I can't eat most of the stuff in the fridge at work, and houmous is my only saviour (we get free lunch y'see) but I'll come up with other solutions soon!

my diet, when cooking myself is fairly dairy free anyway, so am feeling good. Have stocked up on the small G&B choccie bars too though :o so chocolate is still on the cards!

However, with dark vegan chocolate you'll find you don't want to eat as much - it's too rich. Which is a bonus :)

I wish I had free lunch :( :p

yes yes! although I ate a 35g bar of G&Bs today. must not progress onto the big bars... i reckon i could eat a whole big bar of maya gold!

free lunch is good but will be gone by the end of feb sadly :(

Osteoporosis is a result of the body losing calcium from the bones, not as a result of a low calcium intake. :)

Going vegan is good for weight loss, but not good for your bones.

Bollocks

My mum has osteoporosis, and doctor has given her a calcium and Vitmain D supplement, to take alongside her bone-building tablets.

Because she has osteoporosis not because she's vegan!

As Isitme says, osteoporosis is caused by the bones not holding onto calcium... not a calcium deficiency in your diet. The main causes are old age and a lack of eostrogen (in post-menopausal women)

Bones store calcium though. So if you don't have enough they won't store any, anorexics get thinning bones.

right so how are my family still standing, have no health probs and haven't been to the docs for so long we can't remember then?
they've all been vegan for 25yrs+ but i am a lazy veggie :o

Apparently, you absorb more useful calcium from eating broccoli than you do from drinking milk. And apparently curly kale has 6 times more calcium than that.

And that, my friends, is a Vintage Paw fact.

Not if you cook it unfortuanately. During cooking calcium levels of broccoli reduce more quickly than a big bag of white powder goes down in Amy Winehouse's dressing room.

And that's almost a real life fact!

Hmmm, interesting. What about curly kale?

fuck fuck fuck

i really didn't want advice on what cakes and biscuits were vegan

*prods belly*

*sighs*

I've been vegan twice but never lasted for more than 12 months :o Good luck, I hope you succeed.
When I first tried to become vegan I didn't cook much so lived mostly on chips and spring rolls from the chinese chippy that was next door to where I lived. I gained about a stone in 9 months and was the only fat vegan I ever knew of :o

Vegans can get enough calcium easily!!
The fact that you can only get calcium from milk and cheese is propaganda spread by the milk marketing board. Some forms of tofu have 4 times as much calcium than milk, and many greens come close to the amount in milk also.

It is very easy to have a very healthy vegan diet. The problems come when you try to eat out or buy any pre-prepared food

BUMP!

How's it going crustychick? I started a few weeks ago from veggie, s'all good except I've become addicted to crystalised ginger (in fact i think this has nothing to do with being vegan, hah).

Anyone got any delicious recipes they feel the burning need to share?

Oh also I'm dealing with the nothing-to-eat-during-the-day problem by stalking and mimicing these awesome people: http://www.flickr.com/groups/veganbento
