Going to California episode 2.

I know. I wasn't talking about you. I meant people who have a go at them for their lifestyle.

Well, I think that you need to deal with that when you see it, because it seems like you are using that as a point now to undermine the reason they were banned, as if other posters drove them to post what they did.

True. What I meant is that when it comes to Stan and Frances, people too often forget to play the ball instead of the man and start attacking their lifestyle etc.
Actually Stanleys one of the worst people on these boards for attacking other people on the grounds of their lifestyle ..it's his mantra as Pickman's model has already pointed out. ;)

He's no angel and neither was Frances.

I knew Frances was on a ban but I didn't know why and I assumed it would be a week or a month.
A year though :(
That seems harsh compared to Stan's 2 weeks.

more than harsh because I think he gets a lot from urban. He wouldn't admit it though.

i never said either of them was an angel. However, there is a difference between attacking someone for their 9-5 job and for being a homeless drunk artist.

On the question of the length of the bans they received I think you should look at the thread FL made the comment on and see that the most recent comment didn't stand in isolation, he was pulled up on another thread for thinking racism was a legitimate trolling method around here.
I have done ruti and I'm aware it didn't stand in isolation. I went and looked after it was brought up in that thread. ;) To be honest though neither of the two posters in question are vastly different or guiltless and both have a long history of bannable fuckwitery on here. I just wondered how you decide on what length of sentence you give each one as a mod? I suppose there's no hard and fast rule and I did ask a mod in the end (Which of course is the right thing to do) and I was given an explanation which I'll accept as a good answer to my question. Like I said when I asked it there's no excuse for it, personally I don't believe in the concept of 'casual' racism, it's racist and that's it in my book and people should be called on it.

Whether you ban them and for how long you ban them from any discussion about their racism is a different matter for me though. Personally I think you're more likely to be able to challenge and get people to examine their prejudice if the door of dialogue is left open. Closing it in their face just ostracizes them and leaves them out on the periphery to continue the sort of disaffection that makes them think like that in the first place. If you look at both the posters in question there's more similarities than meet the eye and they both come here for some sort of community need that is not apparently met elsewhere in their life.

I respect your point about repeat offending though and that's probably where I'll leave it now. I don't suffer racism in the same way as some of the people I respect on here probably have in their lives so I'm not going to try and teach my grandma to suck eggs. It's not on and it can't be defended but I do think you stand more of a chance of changing people's prejudice when they're still there to cop the flack.

I'm not a mod though and I know everyone has an entitlement to feel respected and a part of this community as well.

Yup. They both get a lot out of here and yes neither of them would admit it.;)

I haven't really read this thread but I can't believe people don't think that saying "dirty little moroccan's" is not a bannable offence. That's horrible language.
