God's teeth! Lambeth Libraries.

That's interesting, FM... But I've Library related news!

I was browsing some Applications when I suddenly realised that they were being processed via Crapita

When did this happen? How did these prodigiously useless clock jockers weasel their way into the library service?

and here's another tidbit... Do you realise the extent of qualifications assistant library managers now have... we're getting apps from Phds who have spent many years lecturing... A masters is going to be insufficient at this rate...

Think about that in your novel-less hours...

Oooh, that's a little unfair to the LRB. In the first place, they're not necesarily reviewing the "latest" books. In the second, it's true they do tend to assume an educated and even academic audience, but that's neither "pretentious" nor "showing off" - it's an audience which exists and to which they cater.

You might have a point - though I do consider myself "an educated and even academic audience" and I still find the LRB overly obscure.....

Main thing I was trying to say was that I've never come across a decent publication that simply outlines the new books on the market in an accessible way......in the end I suppose you just can't beat a recommendation from someone you trust.

Frankly, I would expect the level of qualifications to be higher among library assistants than among assistant library managers.
