merely supplying you this some web sites that compare products, as you requested.
I explicitly did not request product comparisons. You even quoted the part of my posts where I said that product efficiencies that pay for themselves sell themselves. What YW and other crypto-socialists here on u75 and elsewhere are trying to sneak through is collectivist economic planning (e.g. note the "carbon credits" post I replied to above). This is something far, far different and far more dangerous than having the EPA or greenie groups help consumers shop for lightbulbs. Get in the game here, kid.

So what? I get to enjoy cheap goods

Yeah, because it doesn't matter to someone like you whether the "cheap goods" you're buying are so cheap because the Chinese pay their workers slave wages, or if ordinary Americans are going out of work because their prices can't compete as a result ...

and live in freedom. Sounds like win-win to me!

For someone who lives in "freedom", you seem to carry around a lot of bitterness towards Americans who don't share your point of view, or who doesn't think that Bush is anything less than some kind of idol to be worshipped.

rogue yam said:
How exactly do you propose to determine how many carbon credits there should be and how they will be initially allocated?

Well, a decent starting point would be to take 1990 carbon emissions and divide them equally among the population of the planet.

You have a problem with equity?

You are incredibly short sighted. You may have some nice cheap goods now. But, as our manufacturing base is being drained away so is your standard of living and freedom in the long run.

You made the claims, you back them up, hippiegirl.

I have already posted a number of things and so have others. Just try reading them.

An example is on-demand water heaters. They can save enough energy to heat an additional 10 million homes per year. This savings would lower energy costs for business, thus lowering the cost to the consumer.

Raising automobile fuel economy by 10% would allow us to completely forego middle east oil. This savings would make oil prices drop world-wide.

Just a couple of examples. Try reading the books mentioned earlier. I may have some extra time on my hands, but I don't have time to give you a degree in economics.

Small is Beautiful, E. Schumacher. It is a classic in college econ classes.
And here we are, thirty years later and the hippies are still chanting these same names around their stinky drum circles.

Ommmmm... Amory...

He probably doesn't have a clue about things like on-demand water heaters, appliance timers, and LED lighting either.
You are very small. Unfortunately for you, small is not always beautiful.

You lie, and the proof is right here on this thread. I mock and refute hippie scum.

I believe that free trade improves the lives of all Americans, through increased exports and lower prices. Americans who are in low-skill manufacturing jobs need to learn to do something else. If the Chinese serfs don't like the wages their communist slave-masters are paying, they should seek their own freedom like real men. I hope they do. If the Chinese ever established a real constitutional republic with relatively honest and efficient democratic institutions, independent and reliable banking, and the rule of law, then with their culture of family cohesiveness and hard work they could sweep the rest of us aside. However, this will not happen at all soon, if ever, since the corruption and authoritarianism are as deeply ingrained as the more positive qualities. Thus my assets are invested here, not there.

Why 1990? How do we know that that is the point where any increase in emissions causes more harm than benefit? If you can't answer this question, then you have absolutely nothing. Good luck.

And as for "equity", there is no objective definition of the word. Put the bong down and sober up and this will be obvious to you. What you propose is that every time I take a hot shower or crack open a cold beer I must pay some Bangladeshi for the priviledge. This is not equity, it is expropriation, i.e. socialism. (Yuwipi said it has nothing to do with socialism, but obviously she's an idiot.) Socialism sucks ass, dude. Try to sell it to me and I will laugh at you. Try to impose on it on me and things will get more serious.

We have already established that you don't have sufficient grasp of world politics to enter a discussion on free trade, so I will ask you this instead:

What do you think that the American's who currently work on assembly lines should be learning? Does this learning apply to all workers or just the young ones? 50 year old men are loosing their jobs right now - who is going to pay for their re-training?

Nonsense. You sound like Pat Buchannan now. I liked you better as Woody Harrelson.

I'm curious as to what Rogue Yam does for a living. Whatta you do Rogue Yam???

And, Spring, I'd guess that RY doesn't have a sufficient grasp of any subject to carry on a civil discussion. period. I have never seen a more stupid gringo in my entire life.

I have already explained that this is not about product choices. You fail to understand this because you are stupid.

So what's wrong with the statement? I think I might agree with it.

I just checked my dictionary. It says that you are not a pedant, but rather a retard.

I'm telling you about technical advances that benefit society at large and add to the economic wellbeing of the country. Since you are obviously scientifically illiterate, as well as economically illiterate, we have to spoon feed you.

Do you know what - I think I might really agree with it... provided the species we're talking about are 'freepers'. ;)

You appear to be so dim that you would remain invisable even if floodlit.
