glastonsbury tent fiasco

We packed all our stuff up, and had we had a 2nd car or a roof rack would've nicked a LOAD of tents - as it was we heard some blokes going around saying how much money and beer they'd picked up so some people obviously left in the 'too wet, too muddy, too knackered to pack'

Plus the points about communication about how the tents were to be left...having said that, I know someone who picked up 4 Kath Kitson tents and flogged them on eBay...

Some of them tho...they were fucking PALACES compared to my little Eurohike 2 person...oif only we'd had the car space...

Hanging around to steal tents that many assumed were going to be picked up by charities and sent off to good causes???

;)

I took my tent home. It cost £50!!!

Its the fest's fault for telling everyone to leave their tents! I would have lingered to see if I could have bagged a big one, but my overiding urge was to get the fuck out of there...

the whole glastonbury is green and alternative culture thing is a pathetic sham...used to appease the guilt of the middle-class liberals that are now the dominant socio-economic group in attendance...cob your tent away - don't worry we'll send it off to some starving africans...I'm sure they'll be delighted.

:D

well actually we won't even do that but don't you worry your well fed faces about that.

I agree but I think there are some certain groups and organisations who's actions and prescence increase awareness so it does filter down a bit. For example Shelter had a exactly that - a shelter for people to sit under in the rain. There wasn't any leaflets or people shoving you flyers of vunerable adults who need support, or images of suffering. It was simply 'brand awareness' so when people next see Shelter they think, "oh yeah, I've heard of them, they must be alright."

I said to my friend when someone was banging on about Water Aid on the pyramid stage, "A lot of people are cheering and wooping, but how many people will actually change after this?" - he shrugged. His apathy summed it up exactly.

Paintball attracts weekend warriors, Glastonbury attracts bourgeois liberals - Babylon is fuckin' awful.

I shudder to think how big my carbon foot print was for my Glastonbury expedition:

North Northumberland -> London -> Southend -> London -> Glastonbury -> London -> North Northumberland... then the next day I did a return flight to London from Newcastle :o

Anyway, I went to Glastonbury and helped solve some of the world's problems by buying a Yeo Valley yoghurt and smiling at Tony Benn. Must admit, Glastonbury seems much more political than it used to be or is that just me?

I am more than happy to put my rubbish in the correct bins for recycling while at Glastonbury, but I don't go there mainly (or at all) in order to be green. I go there for the music and a good time. I don't see what is a "sham" really. Yes people like the fact that some money goes to charity, and will do their bit to reduce waste, but most people are not there under false pretences, they are there to get off their heads in whatever way they enjoy most, see some bands, meet their mates and other fellow mash-heads and have a good laugh.

Giles..
