Glastonbury 1995 - archive photos

told you we wouldn't agree :)

the comparison I was seeking to make had nothing to do with the changing ratio of bars per person from 1989 to now. It was between the early years, when there were no bars at all, and since, when the festival has had alcohol at its heart. Many, probably most, of the 70s festivals were places where there was little or no alcohol on site, very few people were drunk which was reflected in the vibe and, speaking only for myself, I preferred that.

anyway this is a digression, this thread is supposed to be about 1995 and I'm not sure why we've wandered off...

you did not mention the 70's before

so what years did you attend ? as I know for sure there was a few bars in 1979 and a bar was showing in the film that was made at the 1971 event.

Glastonbury 95.
Is that taken on Hawkwell? If so, that's possibly my old frame tent with the blue roof on the right.

Although it looks too flat to be Hawkwell...

Looks like pyramid to me, in the 'not a pyramid' phase.

(Oh ok, yes, hawkwell is that kind of way, but yeah too flat.)

I don't know what Hawkwell is, but that's definitely 1995 and the temporary main stage in the background. The photo was taken about halfway up the hill.

Hawkwell is the practically vertical campsite right under the farm buildings. Rich pickings for tatting on Monday up there, velcro a necessity for being able to sleep in your tent

It's probably there, then.

We were camped near the 2nd stage but we'd been to pick up the lad on the left from welfare because he'd had too many (for him I.e. some) mushrooms.

is that why he looks a bit dazed while you two are smiling? :D

Yeah. :D

I'd had a purple microdot several hours earlier and was a bit relived that it was wearing off a bit (I'm in the middle).

I can testify on the velcro front. Nearly surfed out of my tent on the Thursday night when I stood up to zip the door closed! Roll-mat + plastic groundsheet + socks + vertical hill = mucho sliding about.

One of the best Glastonburys Ive ever been too (19 times this year!). I was gutted when I heard that the Stone Roses had pulled out but Pulp ended up doing a legendary set, made even better by the fact that Orbital were on before them. The weather was amazing too. I went with a newly acquired girlfriend who hated the heat and the size of the place. Ended up finishing with her as soon as we got home because who needs a partner that doesnt like Glastonbury?! :p

One of the big reasons festivaldeb and I got together in 2007 (and our first-time meeting was at a small festival :) ) was that we'd each been to over 10 Glastonburies in our time ....

last time I went to Glastonbury was 1993. In the whole of weekend I saw only one live set (The Orb) and 2 songs of the Ozrik Tentacles. We spent the rest of the time dancing to rave music being blasted out of various shops all night and morning.

Maybe, but not any more for me mate, I couldnt take the pace now. Havent done Glasto since then but go to Greenman in Wales every year and im much more civilised or 'boring' depending on your viewpoint. These days if I I dont get to see many bands its cos im doing something with the kids or just gently pissed and stoned with mates somewhere rather than being off my tits and vibrating to hard-house.

Was pisstaking above really :p

Fair dos -- bar Glastonbury itself (and working there makes it different for us anyway) all the other festies we do are pretty small (max 10,000 and usually considerably smaller than that).
