Glasto 08 Oxfam staff

After the horrors of last year I turned down two oppurtunities to work there and now I'm starting to regret it :( Anyone know of any jobs going ?

:hmm:

think I'm going to go just so I can spend all williams shift sending people up to ask him awkward questions...;)

"If god is omnipotent, then surely he must be capable of simultaneously existing and not existing, thus if we claim that god exists, are we denying his omnipotence, and thus committing blasphemy?"

I might save that one up for late at night sometime...

Answer : "But he doesn't exist, thus rendering your hypthesis otiose ... "

(the joys of [a ] sobriety [b ] annoying twattishness, while still on shift ... :p )

yeah, my questions would be more along the lines of asking where a very plausible yet not quite right sounding cafe might be located on site, thus taxing WoW's encyclopedic knowledge of glasto to the max, and hopefully leading to lots of pointless radio messages to hq enquiring as to the location of certain non-existant cafes / stalls and in the process destroying WoW's reputation as the font of all glasto knowledge.

it's a dastardly plan I'll admit, and the best bit is that now whenever you get a question about a stall you don't recognise etc there'll be a little bit in the back of your head trying to sus out if it's a free spirit wind up or not.

anyway, make sure you let me know which info point you're on won't you;)

With a mind like that, you should work in Psy-Ops. :D

Quick question... Anyone stayed until Tuesday? I'm pondering the idea - cheaper train fares. I'd obviously have make sure that 'my' crew camping would still be available / secure until then.

Paolo - I certainly wouldn't advise staying till tues in the public area, and if you are going to be in crew make sure everyone knows you haven't left and maybe move your stuff to be with a group who are staying too.

mainly because the gate staff tend to wander off and there can be a bit of a free for all atmosphere with regards to tatting.

wiskers

yes - best plan really is to shift across to the litter pickers area on the monday... but beware coz you might get sucked in and end up staying for 2 weeks litter picking (and partying) like i did.

think it was actually the wednesday we got told to move across, but we'd been stewarding the glade backstage gate and had our own 30ft geodome & a decent crew still onsite til wednesday & just told anyone who asked what we were doing that 'we're watching the gate mate' or 'glade crew & we're getting drunk'.... actually i think it might have been thursday when we got told we had to move to the litter picking site & join in with the litter pick or leave site.

best bit is you can live like kings for a good few days just by tatting - just keep an eye on the cafes / burger vans etc tatting down to leave & get their cast offs:cool:

and what wiskey says - it is full on tatting season, so make sure there's someone keeping an eye on your kit... or don't take anything too valuable and go off tatting yourself coz it doesn't really matter if you lose your tent if you've tatted 10 yourself;)

Yes! I'm thinking about it, obv if the Oxfam area is still secure and it's not lashing it down. I always hang about for a few hours on Monday and always wondered what it would be like afterwards... There must be so much left behind for parties...

I missed that bit, aweome.. I can't wait, got two weeks off work and no grief with picking litter... ;)

Well that's put me in torment!

Being a freelancer I can't afford to take days off when there's work on. Gah! I'd love to hang around for a bit. I would expect the biggest mental shift is Monday-Tuesday... going from festival to aftermath. And if that's still seeming good, loitering until eviction would be very cool. (by "Eviction", I'm referring to a laminated sign I've seen a photo of, saying "Anyone still on site by Saturday [x], and not working, will be evicted".

I'd only do it if I've got a crew area I'm officially allowed to use. I'll be Johnny no-mates by Monday afternoon, so leaving anything in public camping won't be an option. I've see the tatting at work. ;)

So, in a roundabout way, can I rephrase the question...

... if you had the chance to stay just Monday night, would you? Assuming you can put your stuff in a secure place? And if you do stay, what do you do for food? (booze I'll either have, or tat for :) )

I've only rarely left before tuesday... work through the festival, drink like fishes afterwards and sleep, no way I'd be fit to drive til the tuesday, well at least not all the way back to newcastle.

not entirely sure what the script is in the oxfam field, but so long as you've not got anything too valuable in your tent and leave a note on it saying you're crew and still onsite I don't see why you'd have problems, if you're worried find a few people who are staying and camp with them, but don't forget to go tatting for wine and beer early, way more fun to be getting pissed for free.

I'd guess I'd go wherever is designated for Info. Last year I believe it was up by the farm, possibly Tom's field. Even though Oxfam are elsewhere this year I'm guessing Info will still be at the farm, probably mixed in with some other small teams.

It's sounding tempting. At least I'll be able to avoid the crowds at CC. Take a Tuesday afternoon train back, and repulse a few normal passengers along the way. :)

(Although there is something fun about arriving at Paddington if it's been a muddy one. Feels like returning from war. Last year the trail of mud went all the way down to the tube platform :) )

Had my training on Tuesday.

Been reading Torts FAQ, put me in the mood. In two minds where to camp. The Oxfam crew has been moved outside the fence. While this isn't necessarily an issue, it makes getting to and from the tent harder, so i'm tempted to punter camp, but the access to better facilities including a cheap bar makes it more tempting.

I may be reading too much into something I've been shown, but I get the feeling there may be a bridge from Oxfam camping in Big Lickle, over Cockmill lane into the somewhere near the bottom of Cockmill meadow. If so, you'll have a quick entrance if you camp there.

I'm gonna be camped up in BigLickle from Saturday 21st til Mon 30th so I'm taking my big tent.. I'll probably sneak a cheeky 2man somewhere else on site though, if I go out late at night on a ramble, I can always take a rucksack with rollmat and sleeping bag... I can crash wherever then, with mates, a random party, the 2man etc etc...

21 days to go.... I think I'm gonna wee.
