Glasgow: Pure, Dead Brilliant

HA. Thats so funny. The very same thing happened to me. Went to the toilet at around 3am (was open til 4 that night). Walked out the cubicle and there were two plain clothed security waiting for me. Then another 3 of them came in and the 5 of them walked me down to the first aid room. They said I had been selected for a random drug search and that I didn't need to take part, If I didn't I'd need to leave and be banned for 6 months. So I left. The same thing also happened to my mate that night but he wasn't offered the chance to leave. They searched him and handed him over to the police.

This happened 2 weeks ago, the weekend after a clubber died from taking E at The Arches so I think they are cracking down on it.

Fair enough. It'd be a tragedy if it was shut down.

It appears going to the bog with a bottle of water appears to be the cue for lifting. As I said I think it take before arrival next time. Its only 4 hours dancing unlike all night down here in London. Tis a good night though.

Ooo, this thread has reminded me why I fucking hate Glasgow. I used to quite like it but I find the constant threat of voilence depressing.
And The Arches <shudder> I'd rather spend a long weekend in Grozny than a night in Glasgow.

Do you really find it that bad? I lived in Glasgow from '84 to '94, three years of that in Castlemilk, most of the rest in Crosshill and Mount Florida. Despite having a pretty obvious London accent I never had a serious trouble at all. A bit of verbal abuse from pissed-up growlers on maybe three or four occasions, that was it.

Did avoid Union Street on Friday night mind you. The worst incident was being on a bus in Easterhouse which came under a mass stone-throwing barrage by local tiny madmen, everyone had to hit the deck as all the windows went in. But that was a sort of impersonal attack.

Nah, I suppose driving straight from Edinburgh into the City Centre at midnight to go to The Arches or Sub gives you a false impression.
I used to go out with a Glaswegian girl and we used to go and see her mum in Springburn. Sad, Ugly, but not really voilent.....and Springburn was'nt bad either:D
Seriously......I think I'm just getting old (late 30's). I lived in Hackney for 10 years, mostly round about Clapton - Gun Central and it didnt bother me but I think when stats show that men in Glasgow are 3.5 times likely to be thevictim of voilent crime that even London, theres always going to be a perception of fear.
Having said that, worst voilence I've witnessed in years ie that wasnt carried out by the Met during a riot was outside my flat in the genteel New Town of Edinburgh.

The night buses sound pretty lively still. Check out this Glasgow bus driver's blog:http://bloodbus.com/

I am a bus driver in Glasgow, Scotland. When my passengers misbehave, I blog about it!

Drunkies picking fights
Rioting football hooligans
Injecting junkies throwing themselves down stairs to claim compo
Vagrants who refuse to get off at the terminus
Effervescent muppets blaming you for every wrong in the world
Road raging cyclist/car/taxi drivers
