Glade - Possibly Cancelled!! Check Before You Leave

See the thread I started on the gladtalk forums

http://www.gladtalk.co.uk/forum/possibly-cancelled-vt4125.html

"Dreadzone just played and sun shining as I type. "

"My Tent got swept away, everything is totally wet...Glade clearly had no contingency planned for rain, don't bother coming down its a fuckin' nightmare.
They are letting nobody on-site at this time, Thatcham station is CLOSED. I'm coming home now, no point in staying"

With the Glade getting hit, Glastonbury and Leeds already having been hit, and bad weather forecast for the weekend of the Big Green/Big Chill, it looks like very few of the bigger festivals in the UK this year are going to get off lightly. Fucking shocking.

When's that -- first weekend of August?

FAR too far away from now to be sure.

We don't even know too clearly what's likely to happen at WOMAD yet, and that's next weekend.

Some longer term models show a marked improvment around early August time, according to my geeky weather site's experts ;) but nothing's certain and can't be, that far ahead.

BAD LUCK to the Glade people :( :( ... trying to pick up on exactly what's happening ...

jesus christ :( hope everyone is alright and that something of the festie can be sorted :)

*sends positive thoughts to everyone*

Picking up similar stuff just now on a Glade discussion on efests as well. Several reporting that their mates have been turned away from the gates.

That might not necessarily mean an official closure for the whole weekend though????

If the weather improves, might they reopen tomorrow, do you think?

Can't see them pulling the plug (nice iteration) on the whole event myself.
I can - if the site is deemed to be unsafe, and the forecasts don't show signs of an improvement they won't have a great deal of choice in the matter.

If the ground is totally saturated you reach a point where large tents, stages and marquees become dangerous as they tend to sink.

no I can't either

when my dads house was flooded it went from 3ft standing water to nothing in about 6 hours so my money is on the same for this, give it till later when the rain has stopped it will drain away :)

I know, zenie, I know.

Anyway the weather is usually lush after it has hoyed it down as it rains its self out </bill fish> :)

my sis has just texted, she's been at glade since last night. she says they have been perfectly dry in their tent, its stopped raining and they're just off to explore. hope she's not in for a shock - emerging to find the rest of the festival has been swept away!

Yeah, same, I hope they can have something of a festival at least. No reliable word yet on whether or not there's a complete cancellation, it seems.

reet, we're going :)

thereare mixed reports that they may be letting peeps in. weather is clear apparently, and the forcasts are for it being clear over night. We're in the process of sorting out some alternatives to go stay if it all goes pete tong...

wish us luck !

It was suggested I was scaremongering when I speculated that the Lambeth Ciuntry Show here in London might end up getting cancelled. It certainly looked like it was raining enough for this maybe?? to happen, earlier this morning. Although the sun is out now, and there's some blue sky ... I hope the same is true down Berkshire way.

I wouldn't bet on there being no more rain though this weekend, given the at best mixed forecasts. Which I won't mention ;) :p

Point taken. Met office long-term forecast not positive, though

And me too thanks to your urbane and persuasive feller.

Just seen this on another forum:
Milanese just posted on the dubstep forum:

"Just to clarify, it looks like the festival is going ahead even though some of the entry gates are closed at the moment.

But the Overkill tent is cancelled due to being hit the worst, currently its unsafe in there. If I get a call saying its back on i'll post again. Sorry to all the punters who were looking forward to Overkill, i'm totally gutted."

but it just keeps in with your tag line matey :p

It'll be my downfall ;)

All the trouble I get into with him, and there's quite a lot :) , Mrs Ozzie blames on me because I'm older and should know better.

OK, just spoken to someone on site.
Overkill Stage is totally flooded
the bottom of the valley (i.e. where the stages are) is a bit like a river
The rain has eased off a bit and things appear to be improving
People are having it at the Glade Stage and the Origin Stage, apparently.
Wellies are essential, be prepared!

Oh shit - I'm not going but a lot of mates are there already.....

If the overkill stage is cancelled it will completely ruin it for them:(

Overkill is the only worthwhile one of the lot though.
:(:(:(

So that just leaves the psytrance. The same happened, for different reasons, at the Antiworld festival – nothing left but fractals and barefoot dancers.

It has got mystic powers :(

That's awful news about Overkill. If I'd gone to the Glade, it really would have been only for that tent.

they called you a troll on your first post - do those people know you :D

OK so I spoke with the news desk on the local paper.
They confirmed awful traffic problems in the entire area, including closure of a section of the M4 - so if you are travelling there today do check the report on the local website, and AA Roadwatch.
http://www.newburytoday.co.uk/News/Article.aspx?articleID=4758

The news desk confirmed they are monitoring this story, which hosts the following statement right at the end, from the organisers:

"But at this weekend's Glade electronic music festival at the Wasing Estate, organiser Mark Parsons said the weather had so far not posed a threat to the event. He added that extra provisions for the welfare of the artists and the festival-goers were being made available."

So at this stage it sounds like the Glade should go ahead, though they need a little time to sort local infrastructure problems out.

The local paper has an additional report where they are tracking cancellations of local events, which will include Glade should it occur.
http://www.newburytoday.co.uk/News/Article.aspx?articleID=4759

The local paper staff are (I was told) either stranded in the office or in traffic due to the local road conditions following this morning's rain.

Hope this is of help to someone.
