Glade Festival 2010

Was late to pick up on the Glade's cancellation, but the Police's apparant refusal to be anything but obstructive is both outrageous and unsurprising

I'm glad paulo's already mentioned Strawberry Fair. I'm no conspiracy theorist, as most here know ;), but the way various forces seem to be ratchetting up their obstructiveness towards a whole range of festivals needs to be examined by someone with more time than me ....

I'm sure freespirit will find out some more behind the scenes stuff on what's been going on with Glade anyway :hmm:

there was a bit of trouble with do as yer likeys last year, they held someone up with a crossbow......apparently

But its looking like the council wanted more police (who have a policy of full cost recovery policy at £55 per pig per hour), double the amount of stewards, and a last minute license review which would cost money and not leave enough time to finish organisation......

I was getting the impression from bits of stuff I quickly skimmed on efests that this was as much Police as Council driven .... actually, were not the Police the main obstructors? :hmm:

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) has drawn up guidelines suggesting the cost of policing should be set at £55 per hour, per officer for festivals, which it believes pose a greater risk to the public safety than any other outdoor event, including football matches...the controversial ACPO policy means festivals, irrespective of their size, are being charged the maximum overtime rate plus administration fees. The travel time and even pension costs for officers are also being factored into the bill.

I thinks your probably right, read a bit more about it......

there's also an email address for the MP in that area on facebook, and a response from him which says he lives close to the site and was all for the festival, as he's been to glastonbury and latitude a number of times.

Any festival goers who purchased full price Glade Festival tickets via Ticketline for £135, can contact Ticketline requesting to swap their Glade ticket for an Adult Weekend Big Chill ticket. Glade ticket holders will be charged an additional transaction fee of £7 per ticket swapped, meaning that they will get a Big Chill ticket which would have cost them £155 + £7 booking fee for £135 + £7 booking fee instead, saving them £20.

Seems like the Dour or Fusion festivals abroad would be a good alternative. I was fed up with UK festivals last year , now even more so. It's a sad reflection on what's happened to England.

Dour does look really good.....

Im gonna wait and see if bangface/overkill do something together on glade weekend...... if not im gonna go to spain for a week or so,.

After a polite email to 'Private Eye' reminding them of the plight of Glade & Strawberry fayre and police tactics they've even printed a column in the latest issue under 'Music & Musicians.' result;)
