Glade 2008.

w00t...*shimmies*...20 years of saying nah...nooooo...sounds like a load of shit.....:cool::cool:

/goes back to stuffin' bees up a Monk's arse.:)

bosky....I can't tell if that's a yay or nay. I *think* a nay....

Kanda - if it rains like last time I'd refuse to take the van - no fucking way I'd drive it into that!

Really can't be bothered with camping out in a tent anymore. I'd rather sleep in somebody's fucking car.

Gah, if I knew it was going to be sunny then probably. But last year hurt me, and shook my confidence in all things outdoor.
That and the sight of Hi-Vis coppers at 6am while I was trying to roll a jazz cigarette and tranquilise my pony doesn't encourage me.
But the Overkill stage was still a lot of fun, and the techno weren't bad either. Even if I did find it very hard to dance in the slooshing mud :(

ah gwarn. Had a wicked time with you at Glasto, it'd be great to see you there :)

You can spend most of the time at the Overkill, occasionally see the three other acts elsewhere which are any good and then laugh at the trancebunnies the rest of the time. Tis what I do :)

:)

But would you pay 125 quid for it? I haven't seen anything in the line-up yet which could make me part with my money. Wouldn't mind seeing Daedalus, but that's about it so far.

tbh I have no idea, only festival ticket I'm buying this year is Endorse It and that's £75.

Not used to paying for festivals :D

There web site is just up and this is not a big publicity mail shot or anything, just who they have up on there web page atm. The license has not yet been granted (well I havent seen anything about it yet) and tickets only go on general sale in about a month, so this looks very provisional. Certainly there are not even enough names for one day.
well i got it in my email, and it looked like a mailshot to the mailing list rather than one for the crew only.

I do actually think they might be looking to downplay things slightly though as if i read it right, they're going to be reducing the capacity slightly (the campsites on site were a bit on the full side last year, so not a bad idea.

I'm now booked again for glade - looks like I may be wanted to be on site for 4-5 weeks this time... I'd best be getting a caravan if this is the case;)

was out for a drink with one of the directors last night, all looks good, with a few changes in the site to sort out some of the problems from last year including trackway all round the site so we shouldn't have site vehicles getting stuck in the mud / not able to access parts of the site at all again.

anyone fancy sticking any sensible suggestions for stuff that could be improved on (not line up etc. just organisation / site stuff) post em up here and I'll see if I can get the suggestions included in the plans.

£125  is too much money.
Primavera in Barcelona is costing me less than that including the return flight  :D

it does seem a bit steep, but the changes they're having to make to make sure the site can cope better with any bad weather issues aren't going to be cheap.

worth bearing in mind that last year they spent in the region of £100,000 extra on emergency stuff to deal with the wet weather over the weekend, plus completely reseeding the grass afterwards and paying for huge amounts of damaged kit / kit that was buried in the mud.

also with virtually everyone now treating it as a 4 day festival, and arriving as soon as the gates open on the thursday, it means they've got to move everything forward by a day, increasing hire costs, security costs, numbers of stewards etc etc etc

plus they've got to pay me, which I'm hoping will be a huge chunk of the budget;)

basically there are cheaper alternatives, but I'm willing to bet that they'd not be able to cope with weather like glade had last year, as the one in wales at the same time as glade last year showed when IIRC one person died and it got shutdown early.

I'm quite happy to understand the costs and budgeting implications and the many valid justifications for the ticket price. I'm just not prepared to pay that much money for a festival ticket. It's actually a lot of money (I'm thinking probably a month's food), and couple to that the booze, food, transport, and "other" expenses it becomes insane.
Granted it's a wicked 4 days out, and ok, I probably couldn't go out clubbing for 4 nights for less. So maybe it is good value after all! :D
Hmm. Meh. Grrr.

that's fair enough, last time i paid for a festival was 1995 I think;)

with glade i guess you're paying for quality and reliability, and the experience of the crews involved who last year managed to get through the worst imaginable weather situation with virtually zero help from the emergency services with the loss of one afternoons music in one stage, and no major casualties. Ok we got through it by the skin of our teeth, but that's why the tickets are going up to cover the extra costs to make sure the festival really can cope even better with any situation possible.

Better acess to tap water in the dance tents.
that's on my list - it was on my list last year, and I actually was there with the plumber about to add them in when we got told no because of the risk of someone leaving them on (they'd not got push down timed taps) and adding to the flooding which was within cm's of closing down the overkill tent.

Instead we were having to lug big vats of water by hand to the front of the dance stages every fucking half an hour or so to dish out water to people.

it will be sorted this year, or at least if it isn't, then be sure I'll have argued for it to happen and be demanding pallets of bottled water at the side of each stage instead.

A Tap in the tent?
erm, i think he means around the dance tents so you don't have to walk up the hill to the taps in the camping area to get water.

I actually do mean taps down the front of each stage so we can easily give out water without having to lug huge barrels of water to the front of the stages to give out to people - not public access taps, but taps so the stewards can give out water easily.

I also want public access taps on the fenceline by the toilets etc in between some of the stages for public access, but we'd need to sort the drainage out for them.

wherever the taps are, please can the maps accurately reflect their locations?

maps?

you had maps?

you were lucky...

maybe if they give the maps to the people trying to work out where stuff's meant to go then they might match up:hmm:

clearly the problem is rather more complex than I thought :D
actually to be fair I may have seen a map at some point, but i think it disintegrated before my eyes in the rain and mud.;)

oh hold on, no I tell a lie, we did have maps, and yeah the taps were meant to have been there, but weren't which was why I wanted to put them in myself but was over-ruled because they had the wrong sort of taps.

I still never found a pedestrian bridge somewhere in the new bit of the site that had apparently flooded and was unlit on thursday night though... trying to read them maps in that rain to find an unlit bridge in the dark somewhere was just not happening. Gonna get there well early this time to make sure i know the site inside out before it starts.

who knows I may even make it over to the oxbox to see you at some point this year;)

we're also going to mark the fire lanes out before the site fills up with people this time as i reckon it's much easier than having to move tents after they've been pitched.

all sorts of little things like that will hopefully be sorted, but in reality we'll still be running round like blue arsed flies all weekend finishing off bits of the site like usual;)

I worked as a steward in 2006, couldn't make 2007, and the biggest issue was always drinking water for the people dancing in the tents. The map didn't accurately reflect the water points and they also seemed to be miles away.

As has already been mentioned, huge vats of water needed to be put behind stage and then stewards handed out cups. A single tap somewhere near the tents would've been a god-send.

I noticed at Glastonbury last year, for the first time, hardcore was placed around taps to prevent the massive mud issues, and also soak-aways or drainage installed where possible.

I've already bought my ticket for Glade this year, although I had an amazing time working in 2006. Decisions!
