Giving cats pills - Advice please

I used to just crush the tablet and sprinkle it on a special piece of food like chicken or tuna and they wolfed it down.

G'luck!

Ours grew to like the taste of it after the first few times and now we behave as if its a treat we're giving him and he loves it.

The vet told me it's like Marmite, they either love it or hate it.

How would SHE know it tastes like Marmite ?

:hmm:

Thanks for this thread, my cat's got pancreatitis atm and smearing crushed-up pills on a slice of ham has proved far more successful than forcing whole pills into mouth. Also means we don't have to smell his horrible stinky breath while we're wrestling with him.

When my cat broke his leg, we had to give him pills twice a day for a couple of months, so I've prefected my cat-pill-giving technique. Smear a little butter / margerine on the pill to make it slippery and put a little bit of margerine on your little finger. Get the cat into a suitable non-flailing position, put the margerine from your finger onto the cat's nose and mouth, the cat will start licking its lips giving you enough chance to pop the pill in, and because it's coated in margerine the cat doesn't cough it back up.

Never had to give tablets, but our cat needed this liquid medicine when a kitten. He wouldn't let us syringe it into his mouth so we used to syringe it onto the back of his paws and he'd just lick it off and go about his daily business. So yeah, I reckon the butter thing might work. Or in a bit of marmite. Cats love marmite. Or tuna.
