Gitmo Prisoners have Habeas Corpus Rights.

Sorry for that. You'll see my violin pop up in posts of YW where ever she sees fit to do so.
Maybe I should post a pic for her to use, saves her time of typing the same posts again and again. People maybe get less confused because they pay less attention.

salaam.

That was an interesting edit.

I would like to see a pic. I like old things and I can't say I've ever seen a violin worth 2.3 million dollars.

My bad. But, lets face it, how much is there is say about it:

"Guantanamo is bad and wrong."

"I agree."

<yawn>

You should tell The Canuck that. :p

The civilised thing to do would be to grant the accused full legal entitlements, including Habeus Corpus, to the the accused. If the US wants the world to take it seriously as some sort of 'beacon of democracy where the rule of law prevails. But we are talking about a country whose own penal system is one of the most brutal in the so-called civilised world.

(what edit?)
I heard that more recently one was sold at Sotheby's for more than the previous record of some 3.5 million. See? It totally depends on the fool and what wants to give for it.
I think you can find enough pictures of old violins on the internet(s). Guarnerius violins are of a reddish colour.

Correction:
Guantanamo is such a prime example of US arrogance and lack of civilization, decency and respect of the most basic human rights that the sheer hypocrisy that drips off the whole enterprise would be laughable if it wouldn't be so outrageous.

Three and a half mill for a useless old violin! Either he's already obscenely wealthy, or i dunno. Imagine all the good the good you could do for yourself and some worthy causes with that. Just how minted are you Alderbaran? It would take most of us a lifetime to earn a small fraction of that (90k a year times 40 would do it). Can't understand why you would hang onto it, you could live on something like 500 pound a week on the interest alone. How can you justify keeping it?

you'd FEED them in cages? nah not me, i'd let them rot, slowly starving and dieing a painful death. no less than they deserve for the disgusting illegal and not to mention morally beyond belief, things they've done. good riddance. let them eat each other for all i bloody care.

Thank You!

Someone gets my point! :)

Well, I don't.

I think you are being rude and are bullying him based on his networth. Sorry, but money don't impress me much and I don't think it is any of your business. Do we pry into your financial dealings?

If you were bullying him based on his religion, sex or colour, you would be out of order.

Bullying based on income is pathetic.

I get bullied for my nationality on a regular basis. This is P&P, not knobbing and sobbing. If you don't like it go post on another forum.

<edited to add>
BTW, my financial dealings are generally confined to working two jobs and dumpster diving for furniture. :)

He comes in here criticising Bush for being an uncivilised hypocrite. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones is a saying we have that Alderbaran might like.

Heres a clue (completely random):

http://www.janesappeal.com/

Look at all the efforts they made to raise about half of what Alderbaran's precious violin is worth, and all the good things that could be done with it if he was inclined. How am I meant to have the littlest bit of respect for the guy when he's got his stupid violin sitting there collecting dust?

Perhaps he is just a reasonably well off guy, who just got lucky and is watching the violin market for a good price so he and his family can live securely. That would be alright. Or perhaps he is a rich hypocrite who keeps a 3 AND A HALF MILLION DOLLAR violin in his cupboard cos he doesn't need the money and he quite likes old violins.

Ah, so you jumping into threads and continuing some battle over the price of a violin and whether or not the owner will sell it and donate the profits to a cause of your choice will be limited to p&p. That's a good thing to know.

As for the dumpster diving, I've found that the quality of the offerings has dropped with the recession and all. I did find a lovely teak coffee table, though. Lot sturdier than that those beer cases I was using before. Got over $5 for the empties, so I was happy.

How can you have respect for a man if he judges another on his material worth?

How much have you sent this organization?

That's factually incorrect. He jumped onto a thread I was already posting to. I was the second post of this thread.

Generally P&P is a bit more rollicking than the other forums. You have to have a tough skin. Note how many americans were here two years ago and how many number here now. The survival rate isn't good.

And, if the mods think I'm over the line, they are quite welcome to tell me to stop. If they do, I will comply.

I have noticed pickins to be rather slim. The best thing I've come up lately is some prints from the local art school at end of term. I passed them out to my book club. It's still cheap entertainment though.

Nothing, it was a random choice to illustrate a point. If he doesn't need to sell an object of that value, he must be very rich indeed no? So then he should sell it and do some good with it. Like I say, how many incubators, dialysis machines would that pay for? He can afford to give it away, or at least a good chunk of it.

To be fair to him though, something like that probably just represents a sound and good investment for his long term future. Nor would it necessarily be right to just give something like that away. For example, if he was a businessman, it would be kind of a security. For all I know, he could use money generated from those businesses to help others out as he sees fit. I don't think it would imply he is immoral for owning something valuable but useless if it has lasting value. Its not like he spent 3.5 mill on a new haircut or a big party. He seems like a sensible fella who cares about the world around him, rather than just some frivolous twerp.

Just me being opinionated about something I don't know anything about, and of course isn't even any of my business.

Wrong (again). I didn't buy it, nor did my mother buy it. It was hers and before that it was from someone else in her family etc.. etc...
I don't even know what any fool who would take it for merely "investment" would give for it and I am not interested in knowing. It is not for sale.

For all I know, possibly I give more to charity and other worthwhile causes than you do. For you as non-musician a violin may be useless, for me who plays violin and other instruments it is my violin, and my favourite.

Just me being opinionated about something I don't know anything about, and of course isn't even any of my business.

No, it most certainly isn't (and opinion about something you don't know anything is not even an opinion).

Back to topic of thread please. YW with her violin obsession can follow me around in yet an other thread.

salaam.
