Girls that kick arse with music

The one and only....

Keith-Haring-&-Grace-Jones_.jpg

Grace Jones BTW if the make-up is too much....

this is a silly thread anyway. "ooh yeah girls who do music, wahey, ace, phwoar!!"

or something.

It aint a phwoar thread, it's about girls with bollocks in music. So the likes of Regina Speckta or Cilla Black don't get a look in. Although girls with guitars are almost as attractive as girls who like breakcore, ska and radiohead :D

How about The Distillers Girl(who does look superhot in this photo)

Glad no ones said Julliette Lewis, who loses points for rehashing the Hives sound and trying too hard

While we were waiting for the legions of punk women, there was Suzi Quatro - what a breath of fresh air she was !

The original (glam) rock chick ! Very inspiring to a 6-year old girl in the early 70s !

I also love Joan Jett, esp "I Love Rock N Roll"

gotta be one of my favourite intros EVAH !

Just been checking out some of the artists mentioned here who I've never heard of - Warrior Queen and Kap Bambino - they are both wicked !

You know what, it's sad that there can even be a thread about 'girls who kick arse' wrt music. I don't mean that against you, firky, or anyone else on here - but against the whole idea that 'girls who play guitars' is such a novelty.

A a few months ago, I worked in a cafe for a while as a favour for a friend. The others there played commercial radio all the time - pretty much the first time I'd heard commercial radio since I was 15, half my lifetime ago.

And there was Jo Whiley. A woman. Yup. Plus a few other Djs I never caught the names of.

I kept track of the artists, though.

There was Kate Nash. Heh, my GF's other band had a gig with her last May(ish).

No other female voices, no women mentioned as part of the bands. They might have been behind the scenes, of course. Whoop-de-doo!

Jo Whiley, in particular, NEVER played a female artist at that time. Not one femela voice, not female-fronted-band, in fact, in music, it was just her and the boys.

I honestly expected more than this. Not just from female DJs, but from the music industry in general. I wasn't expecting absolute parity right here, right now, but it doesn't seem to have improved at all, and I'd hoped for some progress at least.
