girls aloud's new single - "the promise"

Typically sassy excellence. I'm only on my first listen at the moment but I've a feeling it's a grower. Maybe not as instantaneous as "Love Machine" or "Something Kida Oooh", but variety is sign of genius.

I assume it's Xenomania?

Listened to a few tracks, including the new one 'the promise'

they can sing, but i just found it banal and a non-event really. Same with the other ones.

a B-side Abba at best (i do think Abba were brilliant though) and the Girls vocals aint as strong.

Damn! Sounds Motown-ish, with a wicked James Jamerson bass line: I really liked it!
i agree that it has very strong influence from Motown.

would like to hear it on a big sound system, with the girls doing a live performance in my front room to boot. i could prolly decide properly then.

:hmm:

Perhaps if they didn't wash for a month. Would that help?

They're coming round my living room tomorrow, Paulie. but they're playing under the name 'No Paulie Ts Aloud', so you can't come. I don't know why they're doing that. But for some reason they are. And tbh I don't feel up to arguing with them. Sorry about that. :(

i'll come in disguise with my patented curly wig on and pretend i'm your brother and scoff all your biscuits.

sarah harding fancies me, its official, you heard it here first

Fuck me, that's fantastic.

Inspired me to listen to the earlier stuff - No Good Advice, Something kinda ooh - my God, what a great band.

^^^^
i *heart* scooter.

Me too, but "Something...." is one of their more recent tracks, released between "Chemistry" and "Tangled Up" to coincide with their greatest hits package. That, however, doesn't stop it rocking the balls off almost anything else ever.

I can honestly see us and our offspring looking back on GA and all Xenomania's stuff in 20-30 years time and remembering how great they are. I think it was the Observer who described Brian Higgins as "the Phil Spector of the 21st century", and I don't think they were too wide of the mark there.

Meh............it's ok i spose, not my cup of tea really tbh !

(and i'm definitely not gushing)

;)
