Gigs – standing/seated tickets

sojourner

Where's me readers?
Thinking about the ‘how old were you when you first went gigs’ thread, it got me thinking about those early gigs. My first one was seated. I was bought the ticket, and didn’t question it. Although when I looked down on all those people dancing round and having a great time, I felt something was seriously amiss. As in, I was missing out on a huge chunk more of the experience. From that day forward, I never got another seated ticket. I really get off on being in that crowd, the movement, the 'vibe' for want of a less-pissy phrase...

This might be a daft question, but are there any people on here that actually specify seated tickets, (I mean people who have full use of their legs), and if so, why?

And if you’re a dedicated standee, let’s hear ya

Bear with me, it’s been a shit day

grrrrr @ shit days

I 100% prefer to stand, but a fair few gigs I've been to of late have been seated (but all seated, not out of choice) it doesn't mean that I've stayed in my seat though :D

I went to see Motorhead on Monday and the people in the balcony were given a good talking to by Lemmy for being seated. 'It's rock n roll! Stand up!'

:D

Grrr indeed. I've been close to setting the building on fire today at work, just to watch all the worry go up in smoke

Still, not to derail my own thread cos I save that for other people's...it is absolute poo to be made to sit down, isn't it? I didn't stay in my seat either :) Actually, I've just remembered another 2 gigs that I ended up seated for :o I nearly fell off the balcony at both gigs :)

Still not the same as being in a sea of sweaty, happy, emotional, singing and dancing people though :)

:D Warms the cockles of yer heart doesn't it? Good ole lemmy :)

How was it btw?

I hate sitting for gigs. It's all wrong.
So long as everyone can see, standing is the only way to enjoy a gig, unless you just want to puff yer pipe to some ancient jazz people.

I saw Primal Scream at the Colston Hall, could only get seats in the balcony. Hated it, even standing up it felt wrong and I saw all the people having fun down below and felt sad :(

But you're never guaranteed a good view with standing, and that's why it's also exciting for me, cos you're constantly moving around, as is everyone else...I just love that, as much as we all give the 'death glare' to the back of everyone's head who stands in front of you :D

It was the absolute bollocks :D

Lemmy was introducing one song by saying 'In 1983... that was before most of you were born'. I did feel very old at first with all the 12-16 year olds (some of them with parents in tow  ) but then the older crowd turned up later

Could have done without the five minute drum solo but that's my personal taste.

Lots of new stuff but they still managed Killed By Death, Ace of Spades and finished off with Motorhead.

Loud  :D

I saw them last night :) I'm not a fan but it's me best mate's fave band, and I've gotta say, they were very good. The support band were great as well - could only have been 18 at most and they rocked.

Derailing me own thread again

Yeh, even when you try and compensate by standing up, it's just not the same is it?

:D Hehe, excellent

Did the youngsters get into it proper?

As for the drum solo...if it had been Philthy Phil, bet you'd have loved it :D (might be speaking for meself there though!)

What a great song to finish on!! Jealous now

Yeah, the kids were the ones down the front giving it loads :D

Met a ten year old outside in full Motorhead battle dress, his dad proudly informed us that he was in his second year of Motorhead gigs :)

Ahhh...lovely :)

The kid will either turn into Keith Moon, or develop a penchant for lipstick and frocks, one of the 2 ;) I've heard of stage mothers, but motorhead fathers?!

First time I saw Motorhead, I was in company with members of a patch club. Who were given space outside the hall to park their bikes, met by a roadie & led to reserved seats - the only time I ever saw that in many years of going to that venue! Later, the pres & a few other senior members were invited backstage for a drink with the band & any colour-wearing members who did go down the front for a bit of stage-climbing were treated with almost reverential respect by the bouncers & led back to a side entrance to rejoin the show. Anyone else not in colours was picked-up with prejudice (Motorhead had big bouncers! ) & immediately turfed-out the loading bay door & not readmitted. So Lemmy can go-stick that one! :D
