Ghost in the Shell II - Innocence (Cinema Release)

I thought that ghost in the shell was pants

the animation looked pretty good but for me the experience was ruined by the awful soundtrack, the dubbed dialogue was truly awful, the actors' voices were flat and distracting

I stopped watching partly through boredom and partly because I thought I might enjoy it if I got my hands on a subtitled copy

can I just ask all of you who enjoyed it, you must have seen a subtitled version yes?

I've never watched anime dubbed - always subtitles, otherwise it's ruined. The dubbing is always off, the voice 'actors' are usually fairly shite.

The only people who seem to bother are Studi Ghibli with re-releases of older films and they get in Patrick Stewart and other thesps. Still not as good as in Japanese though.

AS g force states the only true way to enjoy anime is subbed... :)

watching dubbed anime is like being arse raped by a man wearing a condom smothered in deep heat

so no i do not watch ANY dubbed anime

actully the only time i watch dubbed anime is when the dubbing goes bwyond bad intop a zone where it become jaw droppingly hilarious like kitsune in Love Hina the is a strange dubbing convention that osaka-ben in particular and kansai-ben in genrall are represented in dubbing as deep south accents ... this lead to kitsune sounding like scarlet o hara on crack...

actully unfortunatly this is untrue just about all anime comes with the dub as the primary audio track

and indeed it was near impossible to find subtitled anime on VHS as mostly it was the dubbed sold thankfull with DVDs they come with both

On a bit of a side note, did anyone play Xenogears on the Playstation (however many years ago it came out)??

Now that had a storyline that pissed over everything (including Eva)! I don't think there's been an anime/manga inspired game that has ever come close to touching it.

first fuck off if you think it's better than eva

second i don't know it that well all i really know is from having watched the xenosaga anime (and reading kosmos/shion slash fic)

Having just re-read all the Eva manga (that's out, it still hasn't been finished) and re-watched all the episodes, true it is incredible and almost the best anime/manga story, but looking back on Xenogears it's just that bit more incredible (not disrespecting Eva obviously :p :D ). Didn't even know they made a Xenosaga anime, but am getting hold of it now to have a look. Get yourself a second/third/fourth hand american playstation and get hold of a copy of Xenogears. I'd be surprised if you didn't agree ;)

Awful soundtrack? AWFUL SOUNDTRACK? Godamnit that is one of the best and most well respected film soundtracks out there! Perfectly suits the surreal distopian world they've envisaged. It's also very cool on acid :o

Of course the dubbing is shit - in fact GITS 1 has some of the best dubbing I've heard - which is terrifying. Never watch anime with dubbing.
