Ghost in the Shell II - Innocence (Cinema Release)

Stand Alone Complex- two series, 26 episodes each, got some of the first season knocking about but I doubt I've watched them :o
All licenced :(

All licensed???

Might try and get the rest of the second series then, since it really is an INCREDIBLE re-interpretation of GITS (it's set after GITS as if GITS never really took place). There's even a new Stand Alone Complex manga series about to be released shortly (unsurprisingly after the success of the series). Is there a 3rd series underway? I have no good sources for such info

EDIT: Nevermind, turns out they're 'thinking about' doing a third series.

i didn't know 2nd gig was licensed ... oh well there are probably still some laughing man fansubs knocking about even if it is i only got about 10 eps in myself (but i do have the soundtrack)

as for GITS vs Eva .... dunno i wouldn't bother comparing them myself i just know eva has a very special place in my heart and i do consider gainax to be my favorite studio

Well if anyones in need i have the whole first series and the first chunk (think its just under half). I don't really since that would be illegal, but if i DID then i could make copies.

;)

EDIT: By the way, i wasn't COMPARING GITS and Eva, i just wanted to air my opinion about Eva having less character depth throughout the whole series than it should have done. I haven't actually seen either of the two films, i was going to wait and see if theres a COMPLETE DVD box-set ever released with all the new remastered 'platinum' episodes (i think there's cut stuff that's been restored too) and the two films all in one box. I might just make the expenditure in that case

the really need is to have all the tachicoma specials ....

the tachicoma rock everone loves tachikoma-kun ... i almost cried at the end of the first series when they came to save batou

I don't think i'd have the guts to admite that on a public bulletin board.

But i know what you mean :o :D

i understood you wern't comparing the two and was just stating it's not something that anyone should do

i have the uncut tv series (some very good extra scenes with tabris/kawrou) but i am unsure about End of Eva ... it's not cut but they may be an extended vertion i havn't heard of

i don't actully have a copy of death and rebirth but all i'm missing from that is a few recital scenes ....

i also have evangelion RE: Death ... funny as hell

to be honest thats probly not my most embaresing anime moment........

i did cry like fuck after video girl AI

and i was fairly weepy after Mahoromatic .... and konomini... and well you get the picture

ah but then i did see a bunch of hard arse guys who would never useually admit to doing anything ussy admiting they had also cried during video girl AI ... in fact i think that thread became sort of a confestional thread about anime making you cry

Oh dear, oh dear :D

And just another anime related outburst:

I WANT A SERIAL EXPERIMENTS LAIN BOXSET DAMN IT! I can't believe they haven't released a box-set yet... Sure i'm in no need since i've got them all anyway, but still, Lain is definitely one of the best anime series' in existence (along with Eva, GITS, Gasaraki, etc).

What's Video Girl AI by the way? It seems to have passed under my radar.

Video Girl AI is quite a classic ... but look for the manga as the anime is only a short OVA ah but in the anime the lead is voiced by Megumi hayashibara..

basically loser guy but ultra nice finds a video shop where they sell video girls ultra nice girls who will give you support while you are in times of need... he hesitantly picks an ultra cute girl with a soft plesant personality ... unfortunatly he puts the video into his fucked up video player and she comes out with a rather warped personality... it's basically a love story but it involves various love triangles and lots of troubles ... i cumalates into a moment that is just ... so so ... waaahhh!! when the story ends it's happy but it was just so intense lots of people cry

i probably wouldn't even rate it as one of my favorites overall but it did move me

BUT if you want a comedy romance go for kare kano ... it's the shit

Oh right. A romance anime. *Yawn*.

:p :D

Have never really been able to get into anything like that, just doesn't do it for me. Has to be all serious world-saving action or at least a serious drama (not involving soppy anime-romance and cutesy anime girls. Neither should there be TOO much comedy to remove the seriousness.

nah kare kano is hard core ... it's... cool and kickarse... plus the animation is by gainax and the quality is just fantastic

plus you have to really love the charactors ... if i ever become a dad i want to be like Miyazawa Hiroyuki

oh and the girl can't be considered cutsy cute yes but also 50% evil manipulative bitch

Weeeeell i might have a look at some point, but i can't find much of any use on Isohunt and that's about as much effort as i'm willing to spend looking. I don't trust any of your recommendations since you all think Puni Puni Pony or whatever the hell that thing was called is good. Cutesy anime girls and anything romantic/comedic is one package is just WRONG! :p :D

puni puni poemi is good .... if you like insanity

hummm something without cutsy girls? thats hard to say then because some of my favorite stuff is kinda ecchi and comedic

Kare Kano is one of the best
Puni Puni Poemi is good but you need to know your anime to get most of the gags ;)

you strange strange person

personally i like it when anime reduces me to tears of the laughter veriaty

what don't you like? you don't get the jokes of just don't feel that it's the right medium for comedy?

what funny shows have you seen anyhow?

No, personally i don't think that anime is really the right medium for 'comedy'. I don't really have a problem with 'some' 'funny' moments like there are dotted around in GITS:SAC and Eva among others, although i do think they sometimes overdo it when no light relief is needed. However i really don't enjoy some of the more 'comedy' anime i've seen, i just don't really think that the jokes are particularly funny. I especially don't like when well drawn characters go into their little 'funny anime pose' if you can call it that, you probably don't know what i mean, but when characters have, for example, little rants and hop up and down in a silly way and their eyes get drawn silly, etc. Very slapstick but... not. I might well investigate 'funny' anime if someone recommends one, but i'll only go out of my way to look at one, so make it a good un :p

your probly thinking of the original ghost in the shell which was made back in 95

i don't belive it ever got a major release in cinemas ... but it's readaly avalable on DVD

Only see the one 1995 one, loved it :)

*continues to ignore thread*

changing of drawing style to reflect mood is a classic and underused tool in kare kano they use this constantly and it's fantastic

as for the rest... well most of the world seams to like funny anime and so do i ... i can't rwally understand why any one would dislike it

unless you don't like comedy in general...

Well i LOVE comedy in general! Recommend me something then and i'll see if i find it funny (i bet i do! :o  :D )

hummmm this is tough...

i mean what kind of comedy do you like?

the first one into my head that just about EVERYONE loves is azumanga daioh but thats slice of life comedy not insanity comedy whereas excel saga is purly madness

Full Metal Panic Fumoffu was very much liked at the anime night too

Have been meaning to download some Full Metal Panic but haven't gotten round to it, i'll have a look (at those other two as well).

just a note on full metal panic there are three seasons the first is 50% fairly good comedy and 50% mediocre mecha battles the second is 100% full on comedy and was my favorite the third i haven't watched as it's aparenly serious and i wasn't keen on the serious side of the show

Get season two- it really is quite funny and the action works well, never seen the first season :(
Love Ranma 1/2 and Azumanga which are both classics in anyones book :)

Ten years...and I still haven't worked out what GITS I was about! :D Must remember not to take acid next time I watch it. :D

yeah i do belive that for me ranma is takahashis best work but then that is debatable with uresei yatsura being huge in japan and inuyasha being big in the us

but there is something special about azumanga

Re:Ghost In the Shell - Stand Alone Complex DVD's
Just bought Volume 6 on DVD this Saturday, while attending the Anime expo at "Exhell"....
(mildly annoyed that Manga was offering Vols 1-6 on the DVD's at the show, for £ 60 & I had previously spent £100 on the previous 5 volumes... )
The last Volume (Vol 7) is out later this month (?)..
The Upcoming boxset has the Dolby Digital Soundtrack Version, of GITS:SAC Gig 1, so any DTS fan is stuck with the current version....
(The current version has 2 discs per volume, but each disc has a different surround soundtrack on them, Dolby Digital on Disc 1 & DTS on Disc 2)

That doesn't convince me I need to buy it...
