Getting Songs Completely Wrong.

A Polish girl i worked with thought 'There she goes' by the La's was a nice, sweet romantic love song. She got quite upset when i told her it was about smack.

I used to think turning japanese was about some kind of cultural journey, when it was all just about wanking all along.

a kind of partner thread to the misheard lyrics one.

Pie Face thought the Men At Work song was called "Land Of Hunger", and with its lyrics about "you better run, you better take cover", was some kind of savage indictment of poverty and conflict in Africa :)

this brings whole new meaning to the vegimite sandwich line

In Holiday In Cambodia me and me sister were both convinced Jello was singing 'cold, hot' which we took to refer to a kind of torture. He was really singing 'Pol Pot', of course. So we weren't entirely wrong.

Up until I read that I always thought it was 'cold, hot'. I'm feeling pretty stupid now for not making the connection.

For years I thought that The Stone Roses were singing 'She'll carry on through it all, she's a walnut girl' & that they wanted to be dogs.

Oh and the same friend thought

Hammertime was called Happytime!

Basically about revving yourself up into a good mood. HAPPY TIME!

I think there's a valid argument to say that 'Hammertime' & 'Happytime' could be considered the same thing.

@belboid - I never need help to feel stupid.

Even more depressing its now being used as the theme tune to DFS adverts about 'Double Savings' voiced over by Stuart Maconie

I like this thread :D ! When I was about 12 I somehow got it into my head that "Strange Brew" by Cream was actually "Strange Prune"... fuck knows what I thought it was about

What about "Brown sugar" by the Rolling Stones? I've heard arguments that although it "appears" to be about the sexual abuse of slaves by their "owners", it's "really" about heroin.

Oh my cousin thought ''Liberian Girl' was actually about a sexy girl who worked in a library.

And my mum thought Chasing Pavements was about being sick on the floor?!

And someone told me More Than Words was about blowjobs.

and 'Golden Brown' by The Stranglers is about heroin and not brown sugar :)

I know a singer who performs Golden Brown but has slightly changed the words so that it has become Gordon Brown. Unsurprisingly the song extracts the urine from said Gordon Brown.

Derail over - as you were.

My eldest daughter is on "study leave" At the moment this involves singing along to the Clash on her iPod. She just sung:

I've lost my bain marie
My mind? Behind!
I can't see so clearly

Anything I want he gives it to me
Anything I want he gives it, but not for free

Clearest indication yet that my kids are middle class. :(

Something of a misheard lyric, but like the OP affected the interpretation of the whole song: for the longest time I thought was "Son of Man", and was a comment on human history.

Still like mine better.
