getting music off ipod and into itunes

ok

here's how you do it. it's simple. this assumes you're on your new pc.

0. Don't install itunes just yet.
1. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options - View.
2. Select "Show hidden files and folders"
3. Click OK
4. Plug in your ipod
5. Browse to it in Explorer - you should see a folder called iPod_Control. In here is a folder called Music which has all your music in.
6. All the filenames will be messed up. Don't worry.
7. Copy the Music folder to your harddrive.
8. Install iTunes
9. Go into iTunes preferences and make sure "copy to library when importing" and "keep my library organised" are turned ON
10. Drag and drop your copied Music folder onto the iTunes window.

Bumped!

Finally got around to doing this.

Success!

20 gig of tunes rescued and now safely on an external HD and happily playing thru iTunes at work.

Cheers Crispy!

Read this thread and links but still come unstuck.

Basically ipod is fucked. I can still play it but I can't update and I kind of need to. So the plan is to copy everything onto hardrive, wipe the ipod and then load up the songs to an existing library and then onto my ipod. In theory anyway...

One wall that I have hit is copying the music folder from the ipod into itunes because it doesn't seem like its recognised. See below.

I have to access all the music manually which is in 55 different files and there are about 3500 songs. So I copied and pasted some of the files from into itunes, and it recognised some and not all of the songs.

Also files weren't added to library even though the option was checked

What am i doing wrong here? Answers on a postcard:facepalm:
