Get off HIGNFY Widdecombe

Regarding her cat's name, James Arbuthnot is actually my MP for North East Hampshire. I've never voted for the fucker, but I wonder if she named the cat after him. If so, very strange.

I've just watched this and thought it was very good. Anne's voice is very annoying and she is odd, but it made for an excellent episode.

It'd have been less painful if they'd accepted it would be a novelty show of the Brucie variety, rather than have her attempt to present what is actually a rather highbrow show*

*HIGNFY is a key source of political info for many viewers

I saw Jimmy Carr live in the Hobgoblin years ago and he was hilarious. Mind you, I remember a couple of sanctimonious pricks in the audience back then, too.

Jimmy Carr's alright, but his stand-up routine (which I saw in an episode of Live At The Apollo recently) has got something a bit ... dated-feeling and end-of-the-pier about it in the style of delivery, imo.

i usually can't stand him but he pissed all over twat Jupitus - and dear ole Noel Fielding wasn't up to much imo.

If Jimmy Carr were to be thrown off the end of a pier it woudl cause me no significant distress.

I watched some of this show online and it was really weird for HIGNFY. AW seemed to spend her time (not intentionally but because she has no sense of humour) trying to kill all the jokes, so the panel were forced to try and get around her by making jokes from her humour-killing comments. I reckon the episode was much more of a challenge for the panel than normal - they usually have someone funny to work with as presenter rather than someone they have to fight in order to get any humour going...
I really doubt she'll be invited back.

Oh, come on, he'd not that bad - he just has a style that feels a bit dated and belonging to a bygone genre of standup.

Oh I can be excused from that - I'm gay. But I do have a friend who claims to fancy Anne Widdecombe.

Were you gay BEFORE you saw AW on HIGNFY?

The amount of times paul and ian shook there heads or just looked baffled at her style gave evidence to that. Was still funny though. As a one off

Am I the only person to acutally like Jimmy Carr?

I think he is hillarious.

He writes some good gags and his ad-libbing is very sharp. It's the persona which tends to grate.

I thought he was alright on HIGNFY (but then he had an easy target to get stuck in to) but don't have a lot of time for his stand up. In some ways he's extraordinary – he manages to be a poor man's Jerry Sadowitz, Bob Monkhouse and Steven Wright all at the same time!

Just saw HIGNFY last night and enjoyed it.

And afterwards there was Live at the Appollo on BBC1 which was very very good last night.

I found Jo Brand's anecdotes about shmoozing around NuLabour politicians rather tedious and embarrasing, tbh.

Definitely - her set was pretty good apart from that.

I agree - she still has a comedic talent, but the whole creeping-to-nulab-establishment thing left a nasty taste in my mouth. How long before we're regaled with "hilarious" affectionate anecdotes about meeting royalty, I wonder?

I thought it was fucking dire...Jo Brand is a bore and that other bloke was okay, but nothing more than a new Joe Pasquale/Lee Evans...ie, quite physical jokes that really aren't that funny.

Yes, i also noticed Jimmy Carr with his mouth open in an 'O' of amazement at what AW was spouting. I watched the episode twice cos i couldn't work out the first time whether i enjoyed it or not - result? Still not sure tbh.....

I take it all back - Jimmy Carr's alright by me...

From The Guardian...

http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/mediamonkey/2007/11/widdecombe_disgusted_by_carrs.html

There's some sad news today that will leave comedy fans distraught: Ann Widdecombe has vowed never to go on Have I Got News For You again. Not because she was monstered by Ian Hislop and Paul Merton - in fact she lauds the satirical quiz's long-standing team captains for "the fastest wits in showbusiness". No, what has provoked her wrath is being forced to endure the company of fellow guest Jimmy Carr. "His idea of wit is a barrage of filth and the sort of humour most men grow out of in their teens," she harrumphs in her Daily Express column today. "The edit got rid of much of it but there's no amount of money for which I would go through those two recording hours again. At one stage I nearly walked out." And now, sadly, Ann has walked out on the show for good. Jimmy, how can you live with yourself after what you've done? The nation will not easily forgive you.

Is there a fund to which we can donate to Jimmy Carr?
