Get in quick: arty goings on inside the Kingsway Tunnel

Leftovers from film set - both "union St" and the map - from a film called "the escapist" staring Brian Cox.

You'd think they would tidy up after themselves?

We did ask the guide and apparently the crew did clean the tunnel pretty well to even begin filming in it (although how she knew wasn't entirely clear :confused:) so one tube map and few roundels weren't conisdered a big deal. It looked to me like the "signs" were glued to cardboard backing them glued to the wall.

Would I be correct to assume that there is no point showing up this Saturday without tickets and hoping they might let me in anyway?

...
A note for anyone wanting to see the exhibition if it's saying fully booked - I don't know if it's always the case but no one checked my printed off email booking confirmation so if there is only one or two of you, you could probably get in if you just turn up.

I might have a spare for this at 1pm on Sunday as memespring might not be able to go. If you're interested let me know. I should know by tomorrow lunchtime one way or the other.

I'd give it a go if you're on your own.
You could plead and say you've travelled a long way and give them a hopeful smile.

Cheers - but it would need to be tomorrow and two people.

I might take a wander down there in my lunch hour today and see if there's anyone around who might be able to tell me.

Well they said it's still worthwhile showing up and they'd probably be able to fit a small number of people in somewhere, because they have quite a lot of no-shows.

Bump cos I definitely have a spare for tomorrow. If anyone wants it let me know. :)

Conrad Shawcross's success in the art world is entirely based on merit and has nothing to do with him being the son of influential parents like William Shawcross and Marina Warner. :)

I expect so. yes.

Thank you, nipsla.

I thought it was okay. Any hype could be more put down to it's size and location, I'd say. Wether it lives up to the expectation a special trip just to see one thing is another story, but I had to be in Covent Garden after anyway so it served me well to have an arrangement to make beforehand.

One of those things where very little is happening but you could quite easily watch it's inexorable progress for longer.

Good venue. Maybe Shunt could move there......?

I wondered if the space could be used for some sort of club or something. I think it might be a bit too long and narrow though.

At the moment it seems to be a storage place for the highways dpt. Lots of granite kerbs, and bollards and stuff stacked around the place. The guy told us it took six men six days to move it all in preparation for the art thingie.

Tunnel = cool
Machine making the rope = cool
Rope = not so cool

Still fun tho - it feels like wry and I spent the whole day underground as we went to see the 'Bunker' installation in The Curve@Barbican (a recreation of a mining bunker, complete with control rooms and railway) :D

Thanks, didn't know about this, went to the the bunker after the tunnel too, very impressive, well worth a visit (they have a no photos rule, so i just snapped a couple):

Asked about this, they said it took 4 years to get permission and there's been loads of enquiries about using the space and all have been denied except for this. They said Camden are worried about H&S issues. Might be worth trying though, its a fantastic space...

Enjoyed this on Sunday night. Only just seen the bunker thing, dunno how I missed Kyser posting about it, interested in that now.

The problem with the Kingsway tunnel, and any future use it may have, is that it's exits are limited to the central reservation at Kingsway (at present), and the only exits to the street (currently) are those at either end of the tram platform. It's also because Camden council are a useless shower of cunts, but that's a whole other story/.

There are some stairways that are grated over at the junction of Kingsway & Aldwych too, they must lead in there too I spose?

Yeah, the piece itself weren't that great - "you can buy time soon!" said it all for me - but the space itself is fucking cool.

do you mean the kingsway tunnel thing?

Part of the tunnel is badly lit. Other than that I'd think they would be okay. Depends on the 2 year olds. It would only take you 15 seconds or so to get outside if they didn't like it.
