Gervais/Merchant...Extras Debuts Tonight at 9 on BBC2

fairplay to les dennis for letting them rip the piss out of him...thought that was the best so far :)

"the bastard's nicked my watch" :D

I'm well gutted to be missing this, what a time to go on holiday! They're not even showing the US Office here it seems!

My favourite line was when Les said 'I can't believe that was my arse going up and down'. It took me a while to realise just who was saying what. Les was really good, the best of the bunch so far. I'd go as far as to say that they should do more together.

Seen this for the first time, I've missed it the last couple of weeks - forgot it was on. Made me laugh out loud, Gervais is brilliant - there was something in the paper today about him soon to be writing and appearing in an episode of The Simpsons

Sorry to divert a bit, but what was the full name of the song that played 'its magic' and who sang it? its been irritating me

That was pretty depressing for a "comedy" :(

I enjoyed tonight's. But then I've not been watching them all. I think maybe the thing to do is dip in and out of this series for best effect.

The best two have been Ross Kemp ("I shall unleash Hell") and Les Dennis ("Our survey said..."), but I've enjoyed all of them really. A pity Sam L Jackson wasn't in last night's for long – he only had about three lines! Who is it next week?

Patrick Stewart (Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek. It was supposed to be Jude Law.

"Who is the monarch of England?"
"Queen Elizabeth II!"
"Who is the President of Djibouti?"

I thought it had okay moments in it, at best, but quite underwhelming though. Just seems to not go anywhere.
Pretty much how I feel. Pleasent enough but all rather pointless. Of the triple whammy BBC2 put on Thursdays, Absolute Power is the best without doubt.

It floats my boat the most. Catherine Tate is OK, but she needs to not just repeat sketches week after week in the style of the terrible Little Britain. The old woman swears a lot, we get the idea. She's had the odd good sketch though.

If Gervais was an unknow, having not done th office, and this was his first piece of work, it would still only be between satisfactory and quite good imo.
He relies too much I feel, on his 'genius' The Office status to get the positive reviews. People think 'oh its okay/not very good', and then their mind set changes to 'hah, but its still Gervais, the maker of the genius Office, so something special MAY happen', which they use to get them through and watch a whole episode of this.
Dont like Tate, never have, and the same goes for Little Britian. All, painfully awful, and just not funny.

Bollocks. Patronising bollocks.

Oh shut up, Im not patronising anyone. Its my opinion, and if you dont like, thats up to you. I watch it myself, and I dont think its brilliant like, but I still watch it, like many people, because it has the Gervais/Merchant tag to it, so we want to see how hes going to surmount or equal the office. Plus the fact, as I menioned, there are some good bits in each episode, though obviously not as frequent as they came in The Office.

Yes you are. Bollocks and drivel.

I kind of agree with Jasoon. I did expect Extras to get rave revues from public and critics alike but I am surprised at the lack of people saying "Is that it?". If an up-and-coming writing partnership had come up with it, leaving aside the hollywood guest stars problems, it might get put on BBC3 but I'm not sure it would get commissioned for a terrestrial run. It's not offensively bad like a fair bit of the big comedies, just, in my opinion, a bit throwaway. The Smoking Room is done in a similar vein and is quite a bit better. And The Thick Of It needs to be shown on BBC2 asap. It just seems the Beeb is too desperate in the ratings war.

As for Tate, I'd like to see her take a character, Lauren say, to a sit-com where the character's idiosyncracies are more fully explored and the situations are a bit more varied with some storylines, because it's not a bad character and she performs it pretty well. Still a bit lost as to the attraction of the farting woman and the burger van couple.

What a fucking waste of Patrick Stewart.

I have to disagree. Just watched it now and was laughing my socks off when he was going on about the film he was writing :D I loved the idea of this great Shakespearian actor being utterly obsessed with a cheesy soft porn flick, and TBH I'm amazed to the length this series has gone to to parody famous celebs.

The phone call was pretty funny....and his skit about a single, non-gay, non-Star Trek fan.

"make it so"

Loved last nights episode - especially the part where patrick just couldn't understand why gervais had never watched next gen, espec as gervais lived alone at the time!!

And loved Shaun Williamson as the envelope licker/singer!! :D :D

It was brilliant
I also have a sneaky suspicion that the Patrick Stewart character was based on a real person who I met years ago and who genuinely believes that women should never wear clothes as it's against the goddess's will
This guy was rich and influential, worked in the arts, and none of us who knew him had the balls to tell him that eveyone thought he was weird
The fact that we all kept our clothes on was a source of constant disappointment to him

:D
