George IV (or Four) - new eaterie

Well, if it's a cattle market, then at least there's a chance they can reduce that Graham Gold fella into tallow...

To be honest, I prefer this idea to another abortive gastropub aberration. The chances of making an old coaching pub into a decent restaurant were minimal at best

I'm gonna miss the pissheads n speed freaks wandering aimlessly around brixton hill at 7 am!

Maybe they'll get a new licence.

What type of clientele did Southside have then? Is it the same place that was talked about 15-20 years ago as being a cattle market?

and it's going to be called Southside

Now, I don't get out much, but I'm sure I remember a place on Clapham Common where people used to pay so much to get in and all their drinks were free. Apparently it was a total cattle market. Or am I thinking of somewhere else?

if you'd have looked on the website that cerv linked to you'll find that southside was in euston/soho

which is a shame..the Clapham one sounded better

Sinatra's. Free booze and a right hand for £25.

Nah, I lived around Clapham / Balham then, and I'm pretty sure it was Southsides. I'll ask the other half, he actually went once [for the booze he claims]:D

Showing my age. It was Sinatra's from the late 70's and then turned into Southsides late 80s?? And yes they had one in Croydon as well.

I'm getting all confuddled

I'm thinking it was Sinatra's and then changed it's name to Southsides maybe?

sorry, didn't see above reply as page hadn't refreshed

I went to Southsides on the South Side of Clapham Common - more or less opposite the tube once and it was/is a dire place... real sort of student union bar meets cattle market type place.

You sure it wasn't on the North Side?

Fuck, I have some pretty bizarre memories of the George IV, shame it's going to pass into history.

I've got a lot of vague, fucked-up but amazing memories of nights and days spent at G4.

its a pity to see the days of virtual 24 hour opening all weekend, etc, come to an end.

Giles..

Another thumbs up for the George from me..have some really good memories of that place, Logic on Wednesday nights especially..
..it did get murkier of late but as an opportunity for new DJs and promoters and people to go out after working dodgy shift times it will be missed bigtime..
