Google sites is rather good.

They give an HTML editor, but it seems limited - things like page backgrounds get stripped out.

But it means you can get something basic up and running really quickly :-

no, you can have backgrounds, but they apply to all your sub-sites - it'll take a bit of getting used-to.

I'm torn.

Ecohost do indeed do anonymous hosting and I would like to do some proper web stuff before I forget even how to FTP, but Google Sites is so damned easy to use...

I can see I'll end up as Google's slave.

Gosh, I don't even remember what's on them nor their urls!

If you are using Firefox go to File in the toolbar and then click 'Save Page As...'

my ex from like 5 years ago built me a sweeet website on geocities i loved it, he updated it everyday from work, it was awesome... and still there....

i want to save it!!!!!

I'm hoping they provide a way of zipping up all files - I use my accounts for photo hosting as well as web pages.

You can copy and paste directly into Google sites - but you'll have to save the photos seperately and reinsert them.
